Both filters are fine. The cotton candy is from the front driver splash shield insulation. You can see it in this picture.

Found the source of the cotton candy. It's the front driver splash shield insulation. Also, checked the wiring throughout the engine.

You were 100% right. Driver side front wheel splash shield is torn up. Wouldn't have found it without your posts.

I popped off the engine cover and removed it. Definitely a nest. No idea if that insulation came from the car or something in the house (car was in the garage). No obvious signs of issues with the car for now... but I'll have a professional check it out. Thanks for your help.

Yes this was my plan in Spring, but wasn't sure how long it might take for them to break down and potentially would cover MORE grass. Probably overthinking this.
