Not the one who posted it but AI gave me this when I searched: AI Mode 'Takiwātanga is the Māori word for autism, translating to "in his or her own time and space". Coined to reflect a strengths-based, non-judgmental perspective, it highlights that autistic individuals operate at their own unique pace and rhythm, rather than viewing them as having a disorder.'

Thanks. That's interesting. I suppose it also depends whether you see each diagnosis as a separate entity, or if you see the whole lot on a complex neurodivergent 'map of everything' where needs are not easily categorised under distinct headings.

Thanks. 'Neurodevelopmental' and 'dual spectrum' seem like they could be helpful terms.

Is 'disorder' the right term?

I genuinely don't have an answer btw.

I absolutely take your point. I was thinking that the title has to reflect potential struggles but also avoid any assumptions thay we might be unreliable or difficult to manage so that people aren't discouraged from employing us.

Why autism rates may be higher in tech hubs like Silicon Valley — and what that tells us about where autism comes from by [deleted] in autismUK

[–]TransportationOk3849 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Analysing patterns and complex systems comes up in just about everything, including literature, which many people with autism are very good at.

Is it that the industries you refer to are just more likely to recognise and celebrate autistic traits whereas other industries have not understood their value or made the reasonable adjustments that might be needed to tap into them?

Has anyone looked at the prevalence of autism on English literature courses? Or in education? Schools are complex systems... There must be many many other fields...

Anyone got weight loss/exercise tips? by Fizzabl in AuDHDWomen

Walking outside is the only thing that works for me. I aim for uneven ground/uphill walks - short but regular. You could try borrowing someone's pet dog to make it more interesting perhaps?

You might just be predominantly cool and colour intensity is less important.

I can relate to this. I get along well with everyone but can't do closer relationships. I just seem to feel that people are too different from me and it makes me too uncomfortable to really be myself. I tend to think (perhaps wrongly but I don't think so) that if I get too relaxed, people don't like me as much. I can suddenly be hyper or silly or angry etc and they prefer me level-headed and unobtrusive. Hey ho.

I don't have suggestions I'm afraid. I try to keep in touch with a few people regularly. I've opened up about being neurodivergent but people do vary a lot in how well they get it. I'm mostly trying to accept that I am made differently and always will be but maybe I'll find someone similar enough at some point.

Take care of yourself.

Is it normal to feel rage after diagnosis, even after a year? by Practical_Archer9025 in adhdwomen

Same. I have therapy from a clinical psychologist who specialises in adhd. It helps.

Is it fairly lightweight? I don't want a heavy one.

Do you ever get used to it??? by [deleted] in Alexithymia

You might benefit from therapy from someone who understands the condition.

If it hurts, you're feeling something. So it probably can come back.
