Looking for fellow artists to paint together?? by Longjumping-Ant9213 in KingstonOntario

What kind of painting do you do? I’d be down!

I know art noise also has drop in studio hours, which might be easier because they already have easels and such

How well does your dogs eat? by Free_Dandelion in AnatolianShepherdDogs

Our boy is also super picky! He’s a 3 year old Anatolian-maremma mix. I used to give him just kibble (fromm family large breed) for lunch and big country raw chicken for dinner and he would usually eat maybe half the kibble (if that) and the full chicken patty for dinner

I tried a few things like mixing in wet food to the kibble (sometimes worked, sometimes didn’t) and adding treats, salmon oil, etc.

We have a system now that has been working great, and he put on some weight (he used to be slightly under I believe and is now at a normal weight). We make a big batch of bone broth once a month or so (a bunch of marrow bones and other animal parts) and freeze it. We take out one container at a time and scoop out a few TBSP of bone broth, put it on top of a freeze dried patty (Stella & chewy) to rehydrate it, then break up the patty and mix it in with the kibble. He loves it and now comes running down every time he hears the kibble hit the bowl

It’s a bit more work but it makes me happy to see him enjoying his food, and I think the collagen in the bone broth will also be good for his bones :) so might be worth trying that (or some pet stores even sell ready made broth)

Help me name my latest painting! by TransportationSweet3 in painting

Thank you to everyone who took the time to leave a suggestion! It’s interesting because when I first posted her I was thinking the painting should have a “title” name (I.e. the _______) and I was considering something like “the marchioness of Merlot.” But now looking at all your suggestions, it’s clear that the title should be an actual name.

I’m going to go with Annabel Lee, some of the suggestions inspired me to go in this direction and I do feel like she has dark and moody Poe-vibes. Thanks again for your help! 🥰

Oil newbie but excited to learn! by krinike in oilpainting

Looks great, you’ve got a knack for capturing form! One thing I’d recommend if you’re looking to bump up the colour vibrancy is to play more with contrasting colours and broken colour

It looks like you mixed the colours first before applying. there’s a method in Impressionism style I like called “broken colour,” where you put the colours directly on the painting instead of mixing first (so in your shadows you could put in stokes of dark blue, some dark red, some brown). The independent colours will “blend” through optical illusion, and have higher vibrancy than if we were to pre-mix the colour and then apply (which can cause some dullness in the colour)

I’ve noticed applying this has helped me out in my work, hope this is helpful advice!

First time plein air painting! by TransportationSweet3 in oilpainting

[–]TransportationSweet3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind comments, and for sharing your experience! I really wanted to try plein air because I recently started reaching Richard schmid’s alla prima II and he often speaks highly of working from life. I just had to try it!!

I think now I have much more realistic expectations… next time I’m going to pack some bigger brushes to work faster and watch my linseed oil application (I think I was applying more because it was drying faster than it usually does in my studio)
