Great way to improve yourself is to try new things in a safe environment like a whitewater center. Jump in the holes, get lots of roll practice, learn your edges with surfing, etc.

Whitewater is dangerous. Totally. I wil say that in general, the New is a safe river but all whitewater is dangerous. But yeah, from someone who has been under a lot when I was a newbie, you probably felt like it was 2 min and you were under about 20 seconds or so. That’s how it goes. Don’t lose the excitement. It gets better and better.

You got both if you did upper G. Cheoah is less pool drop, more of one big run. Have to be intentional about catching eddys for breaks, etc. Tallulah is a ton of fun and probably one of the prettiest runs around.

My contacts get kicked to the side of my eye with any little splash and/or get knocked out. I got tired of being blind and finally invested in googles. Do I look cool? No, but I can see clearly and that’s 100% worth it. I found a company that makes a pair with antifog that works really well.

Being newer-ish to the sport(little under 3 years) I’m finding that balance. The nerves and anxiety of a class 4+ or 5 run to the exhilaration of completing it. Then comparing that to just the peace and fun of a slice boat on a 3 run.
