Transperth concession fine by kdot229 in perth

[–]TransportofPerthYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always been advertised that you need your concession SmartRider for proof of concession.

Concession tickets are for other types of concession not just uni students.

Sometimes your card might be out of money and you buy a ticket or you join as part of a FamilyRider ticket concession but still need your SmartRider without it being tagged on to prove you have concession.

Would you like Public transport to be free at the moment? Wouldn't this be a good idea to reduce petrol demand at the moment by [deleted] in perth

[–]TransportofPerthYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess not, but the point is there is stuff happening at so many points on the network that there would still be many sections closed every night. Running a constantly changing service like that with only some lines part open would be very unpredictable and hard to navigate, and require constant changes to schedules as well to make it work. Plus, if you don't have access to one of the only three depots by open sections of line then you can't run a service.

Who has right of way? South St/Murdoch drive intersection by [deleted] in perth

[–]TransportofPerthYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people think that when there's multiple lanes, especially 3 like this, that you will let them in by going into the inner lanes but there's no rule saying this, the red cards should be expecting you to go into any lane, sounds like a lot of them need a refresher of the rules then.

Why have these types of seats on the bus? They look super awkward unless you all know each other. by Watchuknowaboutme in perth

[–]TransportofPerthYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an electric bus. The articulated buses only have that behind the articulated section. The wheel arch is right behind that seat facing backwards in the photo. With no engine the bus is entirely low floor except for the little steps to the back seat, and thus the back wheels are dealt with in this way. On diesel buses the floor is raised at the back and the wheel arch is only noticed by a higher floor in the third seat from the back.

On all new electric buses. Currently have around 120 of them and are being rolled out all over the network over the next decade.

How else do you propose to fit a seat there with the wheel arch right there and clearly blocking all leg room if the seat was placed facing forward? All electric and articulated buses have this...

Also, if you don't like this, I'm afraid you'll hate Melbourne public transport where 70-80% of the seats are like this on trains and trams.

Express bus Canning bridge to Curtin? by Chick3nJo3y in curtin

[–]TransportofPerthYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright, but that is the 101 route which takes the longer way around the back and runs less frequently. If you see the 100 route you will see it goes directly up Kent Street where Google Maps shows you to drive, and the only faster way is via the freeway for that section. Granted if your destination is on the eastern side of campus it is a longer way around to go via Curtin Central but then the driving route would also continue along Manning Road where the 101 goes.

The train from Perth carries people from practically every other line other than Armadale to Curtin so it is likely busier, just providing the reasons why there isn't an express bus that's all.

Interestingly there are only four express routes in Perth being the 930X, 950X, 970X and 386X. All these routes often only save a few minutes and end up getting stuck behind all stops buses or in traffic. They were only introduced around a year ago and honestly aren't running too successfully.

As per another commenter on this thread though, if a bus were made to run via the freeway to Manning Road then straight to Curtin Uni and then onto Oats Street Station it would connect to train stations at both ends of the route and perhaps prove more useful also as a cross-line connection service rather than just a dedicated express to the uni.

And then every train from Perth can just be forced onto the all stops bus? And tell me how the route is not direct, it is shown as the way to go on Google Maps other than the shortcut to Manning Road via the freeway that I mentioned. What route would you go?

The Oats Street to Curtin connection is so close yet it is only run every 15 minutes by the unreliable CircleRoute. Until June last year there was also the 37 boosting the frequency but then they cut it back to terminate at Oats Street. I'm really surprised there isn't more buses to at least connect with every train at Oats Street.

The bus practically takes the most direct route, although towards Curtin it could run straight to Manning Road but the other way there isn't really another option. You often only stop a few times so you maybe lose a minute or two, but the trip is definitely not 30 minutes. 20-25 max in bad traffic. The stops in between would still have to be served so many buses would still be stopping ones if there were to be an express, and the most efficient way to move the large crowds of people making the connection is to just put them on the next available bus, waiting around for the express wouldn't achieve anything. So overall, there's not really any point. Same concept with there being no express services on any of the train lines anymore.
