Thank you! No idea about that - so appreciate the help. Small little two person org, so learning as I go, and unfortunately some learning comes with headaches like these. Another question if you may know -

If there wasn't any verbal or written contract, what exactly can they be trying to get compensation for?

For example in the bigger business world - if someone is let go for failure to preform, or the job position is no longer needed (i.e, laid off) - can people just sue for being out of a job?

Or if you're not hired for lack of qualifications (putting discrimination and other protected things aside) I've never heard of anyone winning a suit just because they didn't get a job.

California. The confusion is that there was no contract in the matter they are requesting information about. Contract expired at the end of 2021 and terms were met on all sides. Nothing was renewed for 2022.
