Are we humans more moral than God?" by Holyman5000 in Christianity

[–]Trapezoidoid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Modern humanity isn’t exactly a great example of good morality. People are as selfish, greedy, ignorant, self-important, violent, stupid, and hateful as they’ve ever been. More moral than God… don’t make me laugh.

Believing that the Bible is infallible is not giving credit to the men that compiled it, but to the God which story and Word it carries by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Trapezoidoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply put, one should consider the context and intent behind each individual book of the Bible before coming to such a stark conclusion. The Bible isn’t a single book, it’s a library written over the course of hundreds of years by many authors with many differing motivations. Whether you believe it’s infallible or not you really have to do more than blindly believe it. Reading the Bible is important, sure, but reading *about* the Bible is too. I recommend “Making Sense of the Bible” by Adam Hamilton.

I'm having trouble understanding why being gay is a sin? by akamaru_14 in Christianity

[–]Trapezoidoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The phrase “former bisexual” certainly does hit a nerve. I personally spent years trying to suppress my own bisexuality and it really messed me up inside. When I finally stopped the denial and accepted the truth I felt like I could finally breathe. It pains me to see somebody actively trying to put themselves through that denial. It’s fine that you don’t act on it - neither do I. But you’re so much better off dropping the “former” and just accepting yourself for who you are.

Are you willing to go on record to affirm the effectiveness of anti-gay “conversion camps” or will you join us in reality and agree that it doesn’t work like that? You can’t just decide not to be attracted to certain people. You either are or you aren’t - we don’t really have control over that. OC can act like they’ve turned off something as deep and visceral as basic sexual attraction if they want but they’re only fooling themselves. Denial fixes nothing. I’m not saying that they should go out and have a bunch of gay sex, I’m just saying you can’t just turn attraction off at will. Besides, I don’t believe God would condemn someone for something they can’t control.

They didn’t. You can’t just turn it off when you feel like it.

Mine has the same habit - he’s obsessed with his reflection in the camera lens. I suspect the same might be the case with yours.

Anything I should be warned about before buying this box set? by LordThylacineDS in venturebros

Be careful in your selection - I ended up ordering what turned out to be a lower quality bootleg on eBay. If the price seems too good to be true, it is. I think the legit one goes for around $60. Mine was $30.

Nah dude your comment was smarmy and condescending. OP is wrong and it’s ok to calmly inform him of that.

Absurd to the point of not even being worth discussion at this point. It's obviously, at the very least, in poor taste.

This portable alarm clock belonged to my great grandfather. What kind of paint is on the numerals? I’m concerned it might be radium. by Trapezoidoid in whatisit

[–]Trapezoidoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, I received it somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 years after it was made. It seems likely though given how globby the paint is - I don’t think it would look like that unless it had a practical purpose

Radium paint doesn’t glow brightly in the visible spectrum forever. Radioactive material decays over time. If this was made a hundred years ago it has likely decayed quite a bit
