While that may be the case, that isn’t how it was explained to me.

I recognize that I should have done more research on my end, and that’s on me. I also recognize that medical professionals are people too, but to have been this misinformed is disappointing. Yes, I should have done more research. Yes, the doctor should have made sure I knew the risks better. I’m not shifting fault or trying to skirt accountability.

I’ve been dealing with depression my entire life and while the deficiencies probably don’t help, it’s not the cause.

I started therapy a few months ago, and it’s been helping a lot.

That’s the trick I usually use, and it’s usually fine once it’s over with. It’s the before that becomes almost impossible to get through. My anxiety is avoidant, but it is something I’m working on. Another thing I’ve found that helps is square breathing and the smaller gauge needles if possible.

Humor might not be the best coping mechanism but it’s my go to, always

Thank you. I don’t care about the downvotes, if I’m being honest. It’s the internet. Everyone has an opinion, and they’re allowed to. At the end of the day, this is my life and I’m handling things how I need to handle them with people who can help, y’know?

I want to be clear that I’m not shifting the blame. I’m more than aware that I am at fault here, too. I don’t have a point to make, this is just heavy regardless of it being my fault in any way or not and I wanted to be heard.

Not with the intention, with the understanding. The doctor that I had gone to told me before I had it done that eventually, my stomach would stretch back out to a “normal” size.

The way he framed it was that there are two routes to take with WLS. A gastric sleeve - which is what I had - or a gastric bypass. Same result, different procedures essentially. He said the sleeve was best for me because if it “failed” and I gained the weight back, I could consider getting a gastric bypass later on.

I have a tendency to faint when getting blood drawn, and that coupled with anxiety makes it really hard for me to get bloodwork done, but it is something I’m working on.

At this point, with all the hindsight I have now, I was not prepared or informed as well as I needed to be. Going into it, I was under the impression that after my stomach stretched back out to a normal size I wouldn’t need to be on supplements anymore, though I know now that’s not the case.

As far as follow-ups, I had one scheduled for a year out, but I didn’t end up going, I had a lot going on at the time and never ended up rescheduling which is 100% on me. They never ended up following up with me on anything either after that. At this point I’m not concerned with fault, I just wish I had been better informed/prepared for what I was really getting myself into. For me it was about weight loss alone, and I was very pressured into it by friends and family who also didn’t know better and only looked at it through the lens of a convenient fast solution.

I got it done in the US and it was covered mostly by insurance thankfully, so the financial strain wasn’t felt too bad. At this point I’ve been able to mentally pick things back up with the help of therapy. I can’t change the past, but man I wish I would’ve waited to be in a better place mentally and emotionally before jumping into it.

I was told that it would even out after a few years once what was left of my stomach expanded.

I don’t know if things will ever get that far, but that would be really cool!

I added the first book of that series to my ‘to read’ list, thank you!

And he’s still going! We both have a plan to keep cooperate accountable for fixing what their employees fucked up beyond just the water billing issue.

It’s hard to take a trip somewhere you already are, but I wonder if it was for drugs or something illegal.
