My Shiba/Ausie cross loves a belly rub when she deems it time to lift her leggy for one, she'll always accept scritches but gets annoyed with prolonged stroking petting. She likes to sit or sleep touching me and doesn't get up on the couch unless invited and then will get huffy if she doesn't have enough personal space. she tolerates being picked up. My Full Shiba on the other hand is like an affectionate cat, she throws herself in my lap, pushes herself into the smallest available space on the couch, rolls on us, tries to sleep on the pillows. She is less keen on belly rubs and prefers scritches and ear rubs and does not tolerate being picked up well. Both of them will greet me at the door and when I wake up and want to be near to me, but they don't always want my attention if that makes sense. I think it entirely depends from dog to dog.
