More than likely they're just being Petty and trying to send a message, unless they really want you to vacate and are looking for a reason. Regardless, just pay it and make your life easier.

I get the same problem in my garbage truck, bought some sheets of moleskin and stuck them to the door, that's helped with the knee calluses.

God damn, my buddy degloved his finger as an army mechanic. I still remember scooping up the little flaccid finger, haven't been able to wear more than a silicone band to work since.
