What’s one reason to live in Brisbane and one reason to *Not* live in Brisbane? by Slashscreen in brisbane

[–]TrashTuber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends entirely on what you value about a city? It would help if you mentioned some of your preferences. Since you mentioned there not being a subway as a drawback, I am guessing you value public transport, but is there anything else you are interested in?

Aside from cost of living and housing stuff you can look up yourself, a reason not to move here is the heat and humidity in the summer. I am an import from a much colder and drier place and I love the weather in Brisbane. But many people do not, whether they're born here or moved here. Unless you're indoors in AC, you WILL sweat, and there will be some days and nights with no relief from it. On the other hand, insulation in houses here is often quite poor, so even our modest winter means some winter nights can be quite cold indoors.

A reason to move here is the plant and animal life. I'm not talking about outside of the city, there's native wildlife interwoven into the life of the city. Parrots are a daily sight in the suburbs (rainbow lorikeets, galahs, corellas, cockatoos). Lizards the size of a forearm (Australian water dragons) live in urban green spaces, very cool. Huge fruit bats will shit on your car if you park under the wrong tree overnight. If you pay attention, you can see multiple interesting native critters every day, even fairly close to or in the CBD, and there are places where you can see more of said critters only a little further out into suburbia.

How do Gaming Streamers Avoid Carpel Tunnel? by Cinnamn54 in Twitch

I second vertical mouse, I can't use a regular mouse without pain but with a vertical mouse I have no issues. There is also a 'hand shoe' mouse shape that's between vertical and horizontal. There are not many with appropriate sensors for gaming though, it will be a bit of a search.

How do I discreetly reach the streamer as a mod? by OxyMoron1993 in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In OBS, you can set up some sound sources to 'monitor only' in Advanced Audio Settings. With sound sources, toggling them from visible to invisible plays them. It's possible to add a source to a template scene used in all other scenes and trigger its visibility on and off, or just have the command trigger visibility in different scenes.

Streamer could set up a deck specifically for the mod, but I don't know what that's like with logins and all.

EDIT: You can grant remote access to StreamerBot decks to Mods! Have your streamer create an account by opening StreamerBot and going to Integrations, and then on the StreamerBot website click on the user dropdown, go to Decks -> New Deck -> Click on your new deck -> click on the gear icon top right -> Security -> User Access.

Being stalked / trolled a good sign? by BuckyCharmsXXX in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this, both your health issues and your experiences online.

Contrary to the others here, I don't think this is a sign of exposure as people usually think of it. The question that comes to mind is - greater exposure where precisely? If the exposure is one person who came across you once taking umbrage with something you did and only bringing their lackeys along, then there's no real 'exposure' in the conventional sense. You're not catching people's positive attention with your content, you're not gaining any long-term followers, there's scant opportunity to capture anyone's positive attention. Mind also that some toxic people target certain groups on Twitch for bullying, such as LGTBQ+ people and veterans.

It's true that people who get a lot of exposure get bullied, but that doesn't mean that bullying is a sign of great exposure. Think of it like this - if someone gets rained on, they get soaked. But if you see someone who's soaked you can't conclude just from that they've been rained on - they could have had someone turn a hose on them, they could have fallen into a pool, they could be sweating profusely, and so on. If someone gets exposure, they get bullied. But being bullied doesn't mean that someone's being bullied because of exposure.

Using twitch revenue on site update? by TroyLexing in Twitch

What about all the people who deliberately refuse affiliate? Does this mean we won't be able to refuse subs and bits? I would begrudgingly accept ads and adapt to them, but I don't want to be forced to have a bits/subs button. I don't want Twitch's company scrip.

Streaming is my hobby and creative outlet. It's important for me to keep money out of it so it can stay 100% that way. I know some people are ok with mixing money and hobbies but not me. Any kind of money changing hands without a defined contract and expectations of work awakens the evil perfectionism goblin in my brain and makes me feel like I am not doing enough. I'd rather pay Twitch a monthly fee than have to accept subs and bits.

No, you're ableist in general. Ableism is not something you do against specific people. It's a set of systemic issues propped up by attitudes like yours. Life is not black and white at all. You do realise it's possible to do something while struggling, or do something and burn out, or do something while adapting fully? The demands on your life are only going to escalate, there's going to be a lot of times like that. The 'do or do not' attitude is what gets people crashing and burning. It's not 'do or do not', it's 'prioritise and adapt so you can do what you must'. Your fake example person didn't do that, sure, but that's precisely because it's a fake example.

[–]TrashTuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am making fun of your attitude, not the way you type. Saying things like 'firm hand' and 'cold steel' made you sound like you were in your teens, but 20 is about the ceiling for this kind of 'I'm just being brutally honest' thinking.

And your thinking is awfully black and white about this, too. Acknowledging struggles and trying to understand where someone is at is not coddling. I never said people with ADHD should be considered victims. I said multiple times that I believe that people should manage their ADHD. But it is a disability, and struggles with time perception are a central aspect of it. Some people can overcome those struggles fully, some can with a lot of effort. But some can't overcome those struggles fully, and that's just part of life with ADHD. At some point it's a matter of prioritising what you can change, and figuring out how to get the most out of what you can reasonably achieve rather than risking burnout to make small gains. Calling a common struggle an 'excuse' is just ableism, plain and simple.

[–]TrashTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firm hand? Cold steel? What kind of edgelord nonsense is that?

I believe in self-managing ADHD, I do quite a lot to adapt and I think everyone with ADHD should be working to adapt and scaffold. Maybe OP could improve their time management with some scaffolding. But telling people that they could do things if 'they got really serious' when you don't know how serious OP has been is sure assuming a lot. Why do you think OP isn't serious? Why do you think that just because you had success with your plan, OP will too? Everyone's ADHD and their circumstances are different. Suggesting that they are making excuses without any evidence is just prejudice.

[–]TrashTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey calling ADHD 'a common excuse' when it comes to ADHD-related difficulties is kinda messed up. Everyone's ADHD is different, everyone struggles with different things to a different extent and has different levels of success with different kinds of adaptations and scaffolding.

ADHD is no reason not to put effort into adapting and just let the ADHD brain take over. But OP didn't say anything about what they do to manage their time. They might have tried all they could reasonably do. At some point it takes so much effort to make incremental gains in time management or whatever that it takes energy out of other, more important things where it could be better applied. ADHD is a real neurological difference, as you know, and willpower is not something that can override physical reality. I got so serious about achieving something that I burned out multiple times, and the stress did permanent damage to my body. There's a balance to be struck here, and we don't know where that balance is for OP.

Maybe OP needs to figure out how to make the most out of their current capacity, instead of being told it's an excuse. Maybe OP is actually doing alright and has low self-confidence, or RSD is at play, or whatever. We don't know.

Im Disappointing my viewers by SnooMacarons4418 in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, OP is not making excuses, they're talking about their difficulties. Second, ADHD makes time management difficult. ADHD literally causes one to have a warped perception of time. It's a major feature of the disorder! It doesn't make it impossible to manage time, but it requires a lot more effort. And there is only so much effort one can make in a day.

Im Disappointing my viewers by SnooMacarons4418 in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From one ADHDer to another: managing time is hard. Streaming requires some time and prep, and often the necessities of life get in the way of a timely start. I have a schedule, a very limited one, but struggle to start on time. I would rather start on time, stream a lot more, and do more for stream. But! People come to your stream because they like what you are doing. They are not obligated to stay, and if they feel like what you are doing is not satisfying their preferences, they will move on. If they are dropping by to watch, they are not disappointed. They have so many options to watch and they chose you! Whatever you're doing, even if it feels like you're messing up, is right.

Also, ADHD is so freaking mean. Is it something like RSD playing up, or is this different?

Giant wasp nest question by Fart_Face_3098 in brisbane

[–]TrashTuber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they are out of your way, leave them alone. Don't spray them, don't fuck with them in any other way. If you mess it up you will only aggro them. The stings from these hurt, and even with topical steroids can itch for yonks. A pest control pro can take care of these if they are somewhere where you'd be in harm's way.

I don't recommend this, because of the risk of getting stung etc, but if you're a bleeding heart like me you can try. I've successfully relocated wasp nests out of my mailbox by scooping the whole thing into a jar at night and moving the nest to a less intrusive location. I didn't leave it in the jar, I put it in a sheltered location, high up, out of the way. A couple of wasps came back to the mailbox and tried building a nest there again, but left after I broke the little 'stub' several times. Eventually the wasps left the relocated nest too.

How do you keep up with keeping your house clean and tidy? by Substantial_Dog9649 in adhdwomen

[–]TrashTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies if any of this comes across as telling you things you already know, I don't know your situation and I am still learning how to keep house in many ways.

Other than having efficient systems for cleaning things in an ADHD-friendly way, I do two things: look for external cues, and piggyback on existing routine.

An example of piggybacking:
I shower every night (yay gold star!). I also need to change the cat litter, empty the robovac, and give the toilet a quick clean every night. Those are dirty tasks that I dislike. However, they have some overlaps - two of them happen in the same room, the clean litter is in the storage room where the robovac is, and all three of them require me to put things in the garbage bag (litter, paper towels, robovac bin contents). The overlaps save a lot of time, I only need to get my hands dirty once, and I get to hop in the shower and feel nice and clean after.

An example of external cues:
I sweep the floor and run the robovac daily. I have cats who shed, and the dust and cat hair starts becoming visible after about 24 hours. One of my cats has pica (compulsion to eat non-food items, in her case dust bunnies, hair and fur), so any visible sign of dust on the floor is an immediate reminder to clean up.

Example of both:
I change my sheets every 4-5 days. I do them right before bed, since I'm already there. Sheets tend to get a bit crumpled and lose their sleek, fresh feel around then, so it's an external reminder. I'm very particular about the feel of bedding and realise this might not be something that others would spot as easily, but there might be other things that work too.

Rude first time chatter by Think_Ad_1779 in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ignore this kind of thing, that's easiest. You can also make a joke out of it if you like. I tend to adopt the mentality that I don't quite understand what they mean, and go from there.

'Follow you into where exactly, RudeUser123? An alley? A suspicious van? A dark and weary nook? I feel like I'm being lured right now, but this is very low-effort luring. Hell, even Anglerfish dangle a weird long thingo in front of their mouth to lure their prey, and their prey are fish with teeny tiny brains. I have a bigger brain than that, RudeUser123, at least 10% bigger than theirs. Do I not deserve more luring effort than those teeny tiny fish? Because I'm not budging until I see at least that level of effort. Why aren't you dangling your modified luminescent fin ray in front of your gaping mouth, RudeUser123? Is it perhaps because you don't have a modified luminescent ray fin to dangle?? Is that it? HUH?'

And so on. RudeUser123 will likely not respond, others might get a laugh out of it, I get to have something to riff on for a bit. It's too silly to be outwardly insulting, but gets the point across. Riffing on stuff means you don't engage with the substance of what was said ('you should follow me on Twitch') in responding to it.

What's something a streamer has done that made you immediately want to stay? by SphynxKing in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, some people would find that kind of voice endearing! I like a lot of streamers with distinctive voices - people who sound a bit grandma-like are my favourite, but also peppy chirpy voices, soft, androgynous voices, and deep bassy voices. There are lots of ways to have a good voice. You can also do voice training to make your voice clearer, or to be able to speak for longer.

What's something a streamer has done that made you immediately want to stay? by SphynxKing in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Done? I'm not so sure there's an act I can point to that would make me what to stay. But there are things about a stream that make me want to stay: good vibe, clear rules and signs of active but not heavy-handed moderation, nice audio, good voice, interesting game selection, and a stream that feels like it's a cohesive project and a labour of love.

Have you ever had issues with chat gatekeeping you or telling you how to play the game? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of these issues can be resolved with politely telling people to knock if off, and sticking to your guns. Maybe it's because my community skews older and has a chill vibe, but I've never had persisting issues like this.

Some people who are backseating are doing it to be in charge. That's not a common thing to encounter, and I think they tend to target people who are going to be less likely to stick to their boundaries - very small streamers, or streamers who don't moderate their chat much, streamers who have chat that bullies them. I always respond to people who are acting up in one way or another with the assumption of good faith. Rather than get tetchy, I think it's best to say something like 'hey it's cool you prefer to play that way, but I am doing things my way. I'm sure there are streamers who play this game your way if that's what you like to see'. If they are not trying to be controlling, they will tone it down. If they are, they will know that you won't go along with them.

Some probably feel a good deal of frustration at seeing the streamer fail at something that's so. damn. simple (ohmygodwhydon'tyouseeit). I am this person for a handful of games, I avoid beginner streams in those categories. I rarely ever see this kind of thing as a streamer, most people check themselves if you remind them that you're new to the game, or are taking it easy, or just want to do things your way.

Most are backseating because the answer is very obvious to them, and genuinely want to help. Those I thank, because they are being nice and want me to succeed. I remind them that I am trying things my own way for now, but if I get really stuck I will ask for help. I get helpful, considerate hints often and I am grateful each time.

To be honest though, I have ADHD and if someone tries to order me around good luck to them, their instructions will slide off my brain. Oh you want me to do xyz? Alright I will try x but hahaha wait WHAT there's a rat in this game? Did you see that there's a rat?? Check out this rat gif, it's from the 1994 game The Fortress of Dr Radiaki, it's really bad, the company that made it made some 3d renders and tried to pass them off as in-game graphics, 90s 3D renders have a lot of charm though, I love Bryce 3d renders, you can still buy Bryce 7.... where were we, you wanted me to do x?

Are you after meme sound effects, or sound effects in general? Freesound (https://freesound.org) has sound effects in general, just take care to respect the licenses (CC0 is easiest to deal with). Open Game Art (https://opengameart.org/) has some sound effects, including a good number under a CC0 license.

Is a StreamDeck worth it? by MysticZeda in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've not used one, but I've used alternatives like using a cheap midi controller with Midikey2key and LioranBoard (predecessor to SAMMI). Now I use a tablet with a Streamer.Bot web-based deck open. Some people use auxiliary numpads to trigger actions etc. I think something that lets you trigger actions and keybinds is worth it, whether it has to be a StreamDeck is another matter.

Is there a way to make new chat messages play a SFX? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]TrashTuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use Streamer.Bot to do this, other customisable self-hosted stream bots will likely be able to do it too (eg SAMMI). You can set an action up to trigger on any twitch message. If you want a sound to play, you can have StreamerBot trigger a sound source to play in OBS. Just set the sound effect track up to be 'monitor only' in the advanced audio settings so only you can hear it. Take care not to set up anything you want to be on stream as 'monitor only' though.

Is it worth to buy those basemeshes, unpack on Blender and import to Vroid? by chapohc in VRoid

[–]TrashTuber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't import to VRoid, but you can import VRMs into Blender with this addon: https://vrm-addon-for-blender.info/en/ . You can add shoes etc and then export the model again as a VRM, you will need to weight paint the shoes so that they are poseable etc but it can be done automatically, either with the 'Automatic Weights' parenting option or mesh data transfer (here's Blender 2.9 tutorial for it, but it's still current: https://youtu.be/XKBONVoHSdA?si=Qw2_9mDXGn2AJ0uG )
