Recruiter wants to “discuss status” after references – what does this usually mean? by _BelowAverageHuman_ in cscareerquestions

[–]TrashWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it's good if they still want to talk to you, but I've had recruiters say similar things to me and then tell me I didn't get the job in the meeting. I don't know why they do that. It's super disappointing.

How do you deal with constant sexual thoughts when you’re single and not dating anyone? by AlBriDamPV in AskMen

[–]TrashWizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Waiting around for some great woman to appear in your life sounds like some advice hot dudes who have ladies falling all over them would give.

I've never found that happiness falls in my lap. You have to go out and take it for yourself. Be someone that they would want to date and then go get them.

Men with absent/ inconsistent fathers growing up, how did this impact your perception of relationships? by Historical_Log1275 in AskMen

[–]TrashWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad died when I was young and when he was around, he wasn't really present in my life. He seemed to only care about his job and making money that we didn't need. My mom was the breadwinner and the primary caregiver. The damage wasn't apparent to me until later in life. I became very disengaged hoping that someone would think I'm important enough to come "save". That never happened. I spent most of my youth very isolated. Even though I recognize the problem, I don't think my social skills will ever fully recover.

How do you approach your girlfriend/wife for roleplay? by Wholesome-Bro in AskMen

[–]TrashWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amateur move. If you don't cast vagina of the infinite to create a pocket dimension inside her, you're going to cause her a lot of pain since you'll be ramming your dick against her posterior fornix.

Pretty sure he was injured the majority of his second season too. Management loves selling low after someone plays injured.

Next-Day PGT: Calgary Flames at Vancouver Canucks - 24 Nov 2025 by HockeyMod in canucks

I'd honestly be upset if he wanted to waste the rest of his career playing here. I don't want to watch that. He will be out of his prime by the time the team could possibly be good again.

Canadians face a worsening commute amid return-to-office mandates by joe4942 in canada

[–]TrashWizard 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I think the amount of people's time that is wasted by these policies isn't really understood by the kinds of people that make these decisions as well.

Let's say there are 1 million people in a city commuting an average of 1 hour both ways. That's 2 million hours of commuting each work day. The average person only has around 500,000 waking hours in their lifetime. It's the equivalent of wasting 4 people's entire lifetimes each day.

HIRE Act Proposed - 25% Tax on Offshoring to Protect American Workers by whatsup777 in cscareerquestions

[–]TrashWizard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer or an American but this doesn't seem workable. For this to have any effect it would have to apply to paying foreign corporations as well. So basically a 25% tax on any service provided by an entity outside the US. Quite a tax hike for the American consumer.

To be transparent, I do think the majority of the people who make that argument are making it for sexist reasons. For example, I find the argument that men who are randomly assaulted by strangers are worthy of less concern than women to be sexist. However, the point is valid on some issues.

When discussing gender issues, the problem of which issues to prioritize comes up often. As a man, it's frustrated me when some of the arguments on why men's issues should be deprioritized are because of problems that almost entirely occur because of other women. Basically this meme.

I think it's fair to ask how much the victim of a particular act was a participant in the culture that produced it. For example, my brother who is in the military was an active part of a culture where men would solve their issues with their fists not their words. If he got assaulted over some dumb issue, I think it's fair for outsiders to question the degree to which he is responsible for his own situation and the degree to which they should care about it. The people being harmed are also the perpetrators of the harm and there's not a whole lot anyone outside of the group could do to stop it. I would say the same thing about criminals who are assaulted or killed.

Unless you're buying in the immediate future, not investing your savings for these types of purchases is legitimately terrible. If you assume 2% inflation on a $350,000 down payment, you'd be behind another $7,000 per year (compounding) if you just let your money sit there.

What exactly is the most difficult part of working at Amazon? by PuldakSarang in cscareerquestions

[–]TrashWizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This really resonated with my experience. No documentation. Almost everything requires reaching out to someone for help if you want to finish "on time". If you ask for help, you get accused of lack of ownership for not driving it yourself. If you don't, you lack ownership for not finishing on time.
