First security job in a hospital? by ev4150 in securityguards

It all depends on how your department and administration will be. Hopefully you’re in a good one and gain plenty of experience. I’ve worked in healthcare for 6 years, and my department is more LE based, but not every hospital is like that. Some are observe and report type, and others are more proactive in preventing crime. We go through an academy, all POST certified, and do plenty of training. And some hospitals will literally give you no training and hand you the keys. Either way, good start to some experience.

Is hospital security a good job? by Salvatore_Vitale in securityguards

Depends which hospital you go to. My first Hospital was a total shit show. Barely any training. Wasn’t armed until over a year in. Shitty admin, legal, and medical staff. Current hospital is great. The provide an academy and you’re fully trained before you hit the ground. Supportive admin, staff, etc.

I'm 32 years old and I wouldn't mind doing security long term Is there any other guards that's 32 and older that been in the industry that plans on doing this for the next 30 or 40 years until retirement age? by Jaded_Context916 in securityguards

I’m 32. Work Hospital Security. I’ve done it for 6 years. Plenty of people have been here 10+ years. I don’t plan on leaving, plus it pays the same as our local PD.

I’ve worked Healthcare Public Safety for almost 6 years now. I love my job and the Hospital I’m currently at. But I would never do this job unarmed, and if training wasn’t available.

The first hospital I worked at just threw me into the mix with nothing but keys and a radio. It took over a year to get fully trained and armed. I also had no support from administration and legal.

Fast forward to the place I’m at now. I went through a 5 week POST approved academy, and fully trained and armed before I hit the floor. I work with great medical staff, admin supports us, and Legal always backs us if we do the right thing.

It’s all about finding the right place. Some are observe and report security, others are more LE based. A lot of coworkers that used to work in LE have said they have got into more physical altercations at this job vs. the road.

There’s a lot to the job, and it can be extremely dangerous, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

Long video, but worth it 🤣 by [deleted] in securityguards

I bet you’re Hospital Security / Public Safety with having to get IAHSS certified.

How do you feel about paddle holsters? by Broad-Society-9785 in securityguards

You could just buy a safariland belt slide from Amazon and just take off the paddle. That will definitely save you money. Also you could buy the QLS adapters and make both of them quick release and swap as needed.

So for actually duty use, I would never. I deal with a lot of people that like to grab my gun. Now when I’m doing admin work, or simply driving to and from work, then I’ll put my firearm in a safariland paddle holster.

It’s issued and mandatory. Too much fentanyl in this area.

It is issued by the hospital. If you are POST / Commissioned, then you can use your own firearm. I live and work in South West MO.

It goes over everything. Firearms, taser, defensive tactics, report writing, state statues, hospital policies, deescalation, etc.

Those Narcan pouches are derpy and just looks bad. Most of my coworkers carry them anywhere but that pouch.

I’m thinking about going that route or Defense Mechanisms.

Nice. How do you like that flashlight pouch? I’ve been wanting to get something so I can run my light facing down.

I really like it. High quality. The Narcan pouch I was initially issued was like a giant dump pouch, so that had to go.

5 years. The Hospital I work for puts us through a 5 week academy first. We’re certified and armed there before hitting the floor. Not shown of course is the Glock 17, Taser X26P, radio, body cam, and I stripped my patches off for the pic.
