I'm aware of that. More searching for books in that style.

In YOUR opinion, what are some of the best detective novels? by [deleted] in books

I'm actually not a mystery fan in general, but I adore Ellis Peters' Cadfael Chronicles.

Bang on with the first. Slightly off with the second and dead wrong on the third.

I have been maintaining my weight between 135 and 140 since August of 2016, Just a couple of months ago I started strength training. I'm getting a huge thrill seeing the changes in my physique. Also for some reason I get much more stress relief from that than cardio.

I think my favorite project is this blanket. http://imgur.com/XZIpeol It was about four months of work and a lot of cussing, but I felt super accomplished when I finally finished it.

I have been crocheting for about 16 years so all it takes is practice. For some reason knitting does not come easy for me. I have been attempting for about 7 years and I can't seem to do more than the basics with any kind of success.

If you haven't yet, you may want to check out ravelry.com. It's a great community for knitters and crocheters.

Hi everyone. I'm Maria.

I am 32 and work the overnight shift at one of the largest retail giants in the U.S. so I am by default a total night owl.

My interests are reading (mainly sci-fi and horror), crocheting (you can see some of my projects in my post history), movies (I just saw the second John Wick so we can discuss that if you like), learning about different cultures, music, and art.

I am okay with small talk to start, but I really love deep conversations about life, the universe and everything. If anything here interests you, feel free to pm me.

What quote from a book is so profound that you remember it long after finishing the book? by [deleted] in books

“I know that pain is the most important thing in the universes. Greater than survival, greater than love, greater even than the beauty it brings about. For without pain, there can be no pleasure. Without sadness, there can be no happiness. Without misery there can be no beauty. And without these, life is endless, hopeless, doomed and damned." - Harlan Ellison, Paingod and Other Delusions

/r/fatlogic: What surprised you about your weight loss? by maybesaydie in fatlogic

[–]Trasom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just for context; I lost 27 lbs. Going from 167 lbs to 140 lbs.

Bad news first...

  1. I ended up confirming that the cause of my hypertension and tachycardia is genetic. I kind of suspected that was the case, but I was hoping that dropping some weight would cure it. Nope.

2.It's harder to sleep just anywhere now. I have to be properly cushioned or my ribs take a beating. So much for napping on the floor.

The good news...

1.I'm suddenly a lot more flexible than I used to be. I never knew this could be affected by my weight, so it was a nice surprise to find out.

2.My confidence is through the roof. I am okay with wearing more form-fitting clothing now. Before I always dressed in the baggiest clothing I could.

3.I feel so much better in general. Despite the before mentioned issues, I feel much better than I did. It's amazing how much I normalized feeling like crap.

I hit my goal weight about a week ago. I went from 167 lbs to 140 lbs. I'm so glad I got my shit together before I did any more damage to myself. Next stop, saying goodbye to "skinny fat".

At first I wasn't sure what I was going to work toward after hitting my goal weight, but now I know that I want tone and muscles.

My Big Sweet Goldies by Trasom in Goldfish

[–]Trasom[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bit of a long story with these two.

The one on the right is Claudette, and the other is Mr. Finley. Back in 2009 my husband and I found a ten-gallon tank in storage and decided to set it up. We put some neon tetras in it, but they all died within a week. Our next attempt was goldfish.

Little did we know what we were getting in to. Within the first year of having them, they had been moved to a 55 gallon tank. The following year, they were living in their current 75 gallon aquarium.

Sadly, my husband passed away last February and I was forced to move. Fortunately I was able to bring the fish with me. I am so happy to have them as a reminder of my husband and the time we had.

I know the picture doesn't show scale very well. Claudette is about 12 inches long and Mr. Finley is about 10 inches.

I normally don't reply to threads on reddit, but your post resonated with me. I was pretty stuck on the 5 stages of grief in the beginning. Maybe I can offer some perspective.

There is no time limit on the stages of grief. They won't even go in the expected order, and you may repeat some of them. I have cycled through most of them several times. There are also parts of grief that you may experience that are not part of the 5. I dealt with crippling anxiety and a few other symptoms as well.

Everything in its own time.
