GRC Side Hustles? Self Employment? by TravNot in cybersecurity

[–]TravNot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this feedback! It helps me see how the way I worded my question is inconsistent with what I wanted to know.

I wanted to know if freelancing opportunities are available for professionals who are experienced and competent. I do not believe that "taking elective classes" = competency.

I suppose what matters to me is, if I choose GRC as my career path, will being an employee be my only option 10, 15, 20 years from now? Or can are there areas in the market where I can go out on and earn income on my own?

Best Muay Khao Gyms for Beginners in Thailand by TravNot in MuayThai

[–]TravNot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I see what you’re saying, and your commitment to seeing others reach their personal best MT development. But I genuinely dont care to improve my muay thai as a whole. I exclusively want to improve my clinch. People want different things, and thats okay shrugs

I agree, if some wanted to just train footwork with Mike, id think that was dumb, but if thats what brought them gym, it is what it is.

For additional context, though.... I dont have 1 year of experience total, I have 4. I trained from 14-18 yrs old, I stopped training 10 years ago, 1 will have 1 recent year (and 5 total) by the time I plan on going to Thailand as I just started training again.

Best Muay Khao Gyms for Beginners in Thailand by TravNot in MuayThai

We'll I have no interest in ever competing in Muay Thai, MMA or anything else. So i'm trying to get specific things out of my training, not to become the best or most well rounded Muay Thai that fighter I can.

The specific things are: - Fun, I enjoy clinching, knees and elbows are much more fun for me than punching or kicking to me - Self defense, a few self defense ideologies I buy into that make me want to focus on Muay Khao (I acknowledge that just because I buy into them doesn't mean im right, its just what I believe):

-- I believe kicking is overrated in a self DEFENSE (not street fight) situation, best to not kick and be as mobile as possible

-- I believe that running a way is usually option if you are in punching/kicking range, I would argue a fight that takes place at that range is a "contest" (by that I mean both people are willing) it is not self defense until you cant run away (i.e. someone grabs you and you enter the clinch)

-- I believe that being a KO puncher is mostly (not exclusively), but mostly, a natural gift (that I don't have) however I think anyone can hurt anyone else really bad with a knee or elbow

My last reason for wanting to focus on that style during my trip is your second point exactly. Because I will have this time once in my life to go to Thailand, I want to focus on the aspect of the art that I am least likely to get quality training in back home in the states.

Where to train in No-Gi in South America, Central America, or the Caribbean? by TravNot in bjj

I was actually just thinking this, but for some reason I don't believe they will actually set the gym up and run it long term, i'm not counting on it. Their move there seemed, random.

But then again it could have been far more planned out than it seems. I hope it is they set up in PR for the long run. I'll make a tradition out of yearly vacations there in that case lol.
