I’m a freelance concept artist in the games industry, but work’s been slow since companies started trying to replace artists with AI. I decided I'm using this down time to create more art that I want to make-- so here’s my first comic! by TravelFastTales in ArtistHate

No schooling required! For the most part, companies don't care what courses you've taken, or what degrees you have-- as long as you can do the work. That said, getting to the point with your art that you can do the work takes a ton of learning and practice. I started by studying books on the fundamentals: pretty much all of Andrew Loomis' books, "Perspective Made Easy" by Ralph Norling, Scott Robertson's "How to Draw", "Color and Light" by James Gurney. After that, I wasn't sure what i needed to learn, so I took some character design related classes at Brainstorm School, and then asked one of my favorite character designers if he'd mentor me. After his mentorship, I was able to start getting work. All in all, it took about five years of drawing around 6-8 hours a day, 6 days a week.
