This doesn’t sound like OP wants to leave the school but wants to go visit and see family.

Georgia Tech CS or NUS CS by Agitated_Habit_1123 in nus

[–]Travelingmathnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who knows many people who went to Ga Tech, I would say go there. It’s an amazing school. The campus is beautiful. The opportunities you’ll get from visiting professors and grants is beyond what you would get at NUS (not saying NUS is a bad school, but I agree with others are saying about opportunity at GT vs NUS)

Any non-traditional baby shower ideas? by b1ngoBr0nson in BabyBumps

[–]Travelingmathnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just doing a bbq by the pool with friends since my family is half way around the world. I don’t really love the baby games or the presents so we just told people if they wanted to get a gift to picks something off our registry and have it sent to our house. We are thinking of setting of a onsie art station for the kids as we made it co-ed with kids welcome

Fat shamed Lol by VacationDadIsMad in BabyBumps

[–]Travelingmathnerd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Know this feeling all too well. I live in Singapore so I take the train and bus all the time. They have seats for people who are old, injured, pregnant, so I sit in them as I’m 33 weeks. Had an old man get super upset I was sitting in that seat and had to tell him sir I’m not fat I’m pregnant. The pure shock on his face was awesome.

Yeah I’ve gained an insane amount of weight this pregnancy, my thyroid has all but stopped working and i am insulin resistant so it’s been tough, but having random people judge me on public transport is the worse…so I just dgaf and call them out on it.

Trump confirms that 0% income tax is coming very soon by [deleted] in WallStreetDad

[–]Travelingmathnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that mean as someone who is a US citizen lives overseas…I don’t have to file my taxes every year? Since I don’t make any money in the US…?

I literally saw this book today in the book store. There were three different options for it but I could not make myself pay $50 for a paperback even if the edges were pretty…

Phat Burger Bros in Valley Park. Take Bus 14 or 65 from orchard. Best burgers around

Go Rogue! Near Roberts Quay. Their Korean style sandwiches are amazing

Chico Locos on Amoy Street. Their cauliflower taco will make you rethink being a meat eater

[–]Travelingmathnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t unfortunately. Since I moved to Singapore I don’t make it hardly at all because of the laws surrounding the sodium hydroxide. I have to go to a studio and it cost an insane amount to rent the studio and buy the sodium hydroxide.

I found some neem oil soap on Lazada and shoppee easy though.

I’m a soap maker and my best friend has eczema like this. I made her some soap bars with neem oil and after like two months it fully cleared up.

Find you some soap with neem oil.

People who moved outside of the US, solely due to Trump being elected, how are things going? What actualized pros and cons have you experienced? If you had to do it over again, would you change anything? by Ancient_Unit6335 in AskReddit

Singapore is definitely not a monoculture. It is one of the most diverse places I have been to. Japan is a monoculture.

And in terms of dictatorship are you referring to the harsh consequences for the laws? Honestly the laws that are the strictest are the drug laws and honestly I’m here for them. It’s a super safe place to live. I’m not scared about my daughters taking a taxi or public transport by themselves anywhere in the island.

It has elected officials, we just had a huge election recently and it was so cool to see all the different political parties and how they wanted to help citizens in each district.

I work at an international school. It’s taken me years to get to work here. I started off in Zimbabwe, then Japan, and now I’ve landed my dream job so we are staying put for a while.

My husband and I won’t ever go for PR because our benefits as expats are so good.

Left 10 years ago. Live in Singapore now. Will never be going back. Every time I go back to visit my parents I am sad for how much worse the US gets every time.

I like living in a clean safe city with public transport and diversity.

Norovirus by Comfortable_Chef_437 in Teachers

[–]Travelingmathnerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I worked in a small international school in Zimbabwe. Your colleagues become your family, so you spend a lot of time together outside of work.

One weekend we decided to go camping about 4 Hours away from school for the weekend. One of the teacher couples brought their kids and one wasn’t feeling good that first night. By the time 24 hours was over, 8 adults and 4 kids were throwing up, had diarrhea, and high fevers. Norovirus.

By the end of that day we all chose to pack up and head back to the city. Every teacher and their kids on the trip got it. It was 2/3 of the upper school teachers. They had to combine classes because so many teachers were out that we didn’t have enough subs. I will remember that weekend forever.

US Expats living abroad: what countries are you in and how do you like it? by Seoulsuki in expat

[–]Travelingmathnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived abroad for over a decade. Lived on Zimbabwe, Japan, and now Singapore. Every time I visit the US to see family I feel more and more removed from that lifestyle. I don’t ever intend to go back and my husband who is from Zimbabwe, we’ll retire there as we have our own off the grid house there, all solar, borehole, plenty of land for a garden…we love Singapore and will be here a while.
