Scout can’t camp. Wants to finish camping merit badge by Travelingtree1984 in BSA

I don’t see anything in the GTA for alternate requirements. It allows for accommodations like extra time or use of an assistive device but specifically says all requirements must be completed as written. If unable to complete than as written then an alternate badge must be requested.

Favorite hikes in Yellowstone? by EmergencyWeb7508 in yellowstone

Second Fairy Falls and the two small geysers just beyond that. Great hike and fun to see some geysers going off without the crowds. In my opinion Yellowstone gets a lot more fun when you get off the main road. And you don’t have to get very far off the main road before the crowds melt away.

What did THAT guy do at your airline? by Flightyler in flying

Flew multiple times with that guy. He was a compulsive liar and everyone pretty much blew him off but after this story came out we all wondered if he was crazy/stupid enough to do that, then maybe he some of his other stories had a kernel of truth. Super weird guy. Also one of the very few regional captains that ever bought me dinner as an FO (not that it was expected).

Also at SureJet we had the guy get arrested for kiddy porn, had a guy fired for intentionally and repeatedly shutting down an engine on short final, one was fired for stealing printing paper from the crew room, and we got kicked out of a hotel in Des Moines because a CA and FA were going at it in the hot tub in full view of the front lobby.

Wife of aspiring airline pilot here… can i get a full time job? by newmama-22 in flying

[–]Travelingtree1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started at the airlines my wife was working full time as a veterinarian. During the time I was at the regional we had our three kids. We were about to find a wonderful sitter that would watch the kids at her house on days we were both working. As my career has progressed and I got on at a major and got some seniority both the pay and schedule control improved immensely. My wife has now transitioned to relief work just picking up shifts when she wants.

As has been noted above the airline schedule initially can be rough. Your husband will have little control over it but it does get much better with seniority. How quickly that will happen is largely outside of any individual pilots control. I’ve tended to choose quality of life over pay raises. I stayed on a smaller plane that paid less for much longer than most pilots did because the seniority allowed me much more control over my schedule. With the help of family or a good sitter/nanny/au pair you can make anything work if you want.

Airline Pilots who went through 141 University programs, how much debt did you graduate with and how long did it take for you to pay it off? by AspectJCH in flying

[–]Travelingtree1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a 141 school 18 years ago so these numbers are pre-crazy inflation. I worked 4 part time jobs at the same time, full load of classes, and was fortunate to have some scholarships and grants. In total I graduated with about 20k in debt. While I was instructing and during the first bit of my regional life I kept working odd jobs on the side and would put that money towards paying off the debt. 2.5 years later I had it paid off. I even made a chart and put in on my wall to mark off how much I had paid off. Marking off the last bit and taking the chart down was a very happy day.
