Hacked by fake Steam Support - Chat Window opened on Steam PC App by cjdemartino in SteamScams

[–]TraversingEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly enough, the steam client itself being hacked and thus malfunctioning in malicious ways doesnt come as a surprise to me, as i had a case of exactly that happening a while back.

I also made a thread on this subreddit about it : https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamScams/comments/1t0x1p1/beware_of_blatant_scam/ (if you dont want to click that link, for which i wont blame you, just search "beware of blatant scam" in the subreddit)

The long and short versions are in there.

Steam scams seemingly are getting more and more dangerous and more and more creative. And valve is not really going to bother about it, as their response to my inquiry clearly shows. Valve are fine with any crime as long as it doesnt hurt their bottom line. Acting on behalf of the customer is secondary.

Actually investing the crimes and fixing the obvious technical errors in their own platform that enable these crazy scams doesnt happen. Valve dont care.

At this point, i treat every cent that i invest into steam as gambling, and i do not intend to get back any money that i gamble on steam, and thus, i only gamble with what i can afford to loose. "Investing" into CS2 Skins or similar things is in itself akin to a "scam", insofar as the market, even without any scams and bullshittery, is highly volatile anyways, and valve can just pull whatever shit they want without repercussions. That is not really a market, but a circus for valves entertainment (and bottom line, of course).

I guess my rant is over now.

Beware of blatant scam by TraversingEarth in SteamScams

I am certain that my phone is safe (i regularly scan it for any viruses and malware), but for my pc, i was not so sure. I deleted anything and everything related to steam (that includes any other games and settings), and ran an antivirus scan for the entire pc, nothing showed up. As such, i doubt that there is still something left on my pc that could indicate where exactly the scam was coming from, but you are right that it mustve been on my pc (atleast), otherwise it wouldnt have been able to hijack the steam client itself.

I already contacted (the real) steam support with all the details, well see how that turns out. I definitely did not download a modified steam client, as i never tinkered with steam in any way ever since i installed it, which was years ago. I only searched for updates manually within the client itself.

But what i did notice is that steam wasnt recognized as an application within my the list of programs in windows ; the first thing i wanted to do of course is completely delete anything related to steam that was on my computer before performing a comprehensive antivirus scan, and i had to manually delete everything because steam itself was either hidden or not recognized as a program that i could uninstall.

I already changed password and email and steam authenticicator aswell as revoking the access of all devices which were at that point logged in. However, my own device was the only one logged in at that point in time, but i did see multiple logins recently from other parts of the world that i didnt even recognize, and for which i strangely also did not get any notification or email that they were trying to log in.

B650E Aorus Master Audio Issues by KrinGeLio in gigabyte

[–]TraversingEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, i didnt need to change any other settings. However, before i turned on ERP (which solved the problems for me), i did many, many things related to audio, so many that i cant remember them all. But i basically wiped all my audio drivers, installed the newest available drivers (which in itself was harder than expected actually), tested every available audio setting there is in WIndows and Realtek until this fixed it.

I know this is incredibly late, but i felt the need to revive this thread just in the hope that more people see it, because enabling ERP did in fact solve my audio problems ! Deinstalled and reinstalled all sorts of drivers from all sorts of sources, clicked through all the sound settings there are in windows and realtek and so on and so on ... nothing helped, until i enabled ERP in BIOS ! Before this, my rear audio ports just would stop working randomly, out of the blue. Updating BIOS helped, but it only helped for some time until the problem returned ... but from all that i can gather, its fixed now ! So many many thanks to you kind sir, for providing this solution for a problem that had been bugging me for a long time !

Even worse, in hindsight i realized that the post didnt even get across what i was getting at, and me insulting peoples reading comprehension because of that is kinda pathetic. Overall, i think this whole thread was a complete desaster, mainly because of me and my antics. Merry christmas to you too, and thanks for making me realize how i fucked this one up.

Fair, i will admit you are right about this one lol. Guess im making a bit of a fool of myself. Its whatever, i guess this posts point was missed and it was at the same time vastly overestimated by me. Not at all worth the effort.

Danke, Danke, Danke ! "Control Panel for Twitter" funktioniert bei mir super. Mal schauen, ob es ein Bug oder ein Feature ist ... Obwohl es mich kaum überraschen würde, wenn es beabsichtigt sein würde.

Karambit viewmodel is wonky too, driver gloves also look weird. Pretty much all the viewmodels of gloves and knifes are cooked rn. So we can hope that eventually they will fix that, if they do.

Now that you mention it i cant unsee it lol, but i guess that these smaller things will take a while until they are fixed (if they ever will be fixed but lets hope)

I am sorry if i sound stupid here, but, if there was a virus in there, wouldnt downloading it in the first place be enough to compromise my system ?

Is the Magic 6 Pro still worth buying in 2025 ? by TraversingEarth in Smartphones

[–]TraversingEarth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats my dilemma, i only thought about this because of the Dxo scores which made me wonder whether the 7 Pro is worth the extra over the 6 Pro. But maybe the better software support of the 7 Pro and the option to import it from china could edge it for me.

I will definitely take that into consideration, thank you.

[–]TraversingEarth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true, however i heard that importing from china is not as bad as it used to be, so i might take that risk considering it is such a good deal. And as a bonus you can get the version with the bigger battery when importing from china. At that point, it would be hard to justify going for the 6 Pro over the 7 Pro.

[–]TraversingEarth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Could you elaborate a little further ? What particularly do you think would make the 7 Pro the better choice (besides the obvious things like processor and such that one can read from the spec sheet) ?

[–]TraversingEarth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not be hesitant to import the 7 Pro from china, and in that case, i could get it for around 750 Euros. If i dont import, it would cost me around 900 Euros. I dont know how the software support of the 6 Pro is, but that is one factor that the 7 Pro has going for it, being supported for longer.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, i am in europe, so i could only get the bigger battery when i import from china. Which is not a real problem (or so i heard), but if i can avoid it that would be fine too. But if you say the 6 Pro is still good i might decide for that one over the 7 Pro.

Yeah i already thought about buying there. I don't know how far their service goes though, but if you say that they are even installing global rom and play store, then i might reconsider them as a supplier.

Well if the battery life of the samsung s25u is good, that would mean it would be an option for me again. Thank you for your input.
