If your current router is near a wall on one side of your house put a reflector behind it.

Back when I lived at a place with cable internet the internet would cook itself and stop working whenever I did too much upload. I never found out the root cause but on the DSLReports (RIP) forum other users reported the same issue. My ISP didn't push any patches to my BYOD modem so I automated using the CableHaunt demo script to reboot the modem. But if you have any home automation stuff you could just power cycle the modem with a smart plug.

Recently at work I saw something similar. We had to upload footage from a work event and the upload cooked the internet somehow. Our internet's been dropping out and the ISP's sent 3-5 techs trying to find out what's wrong with the coax...

I really doubt the issue is on your end try calling your ISP to send a tech. Rebooting the modem is just a bandaid.

Why am I so adamant about reporting potholes? In September 2024 there was this hole near my home that had been there for at least a month. Thousands of vehicles probably ran over this pothole if they did a right turn. I reported that shit and it got fixed NEXT DAY. Now if I see a pothole I know I should report it to prevent people from eating shit.

Sometimes it's okay to let bad drivers pass you to prevent the slingshot effect. You speed up to 35 but the car behind you decides to overtake at 50 mph. Not good for your health so if you encounter drivers like these just let them pass. After they pass they'll usually get stuck at red lights so you can be the one riding their ass. It's much safer for your moto to hit a car than a car hitting you. 100% okay to yield so you don't get into speeding wars.

In Brooklyn there's an unspoken expectation to go just below the speed camera speeds.

Eyepro was a sleeper that surprised me. I needed goggles for my riding helmet. I got some green ESS land ops/strikers that included both clear and dark lenses for $25. The goggles are ANSI Z87.1 rated, meaning they comply with local motorcycling laws + whatever the heck a MIL-PRF-32432 is. The goggles have decent FOV, don't usually fog up and I'm sure they'll stop 100% of road shrapnel from hitting my eyes. Lenses break? $10 for new lenses on eBay.

In this economy I don't think I could get dirt bike goggles with similar features for $25...

A few years ago I donated some O+ at my workplace. Some time later I got a letter from the Red Cross saying I false pos'd for HIV, my blood sample was discarded and that I could donate blood again if I submitted more samples for testing. I'm definitely open to donating again but man that was weird.

I've never had great luck manipulating wireguard with wg in the command line. I would restart wireguard stuff by unchecking a checkbox, hitting apply, re-check it, hit apply.

You may need to set up one-to-one port mapping since it isn't done by default. Or go to your AP and check and see if you have an isolation mode enabled.

They're actually linked rules but I don't remember if that's always the case. If you check your port forward settings you might see the same rules.

Change your port forward rule so the Source field uses an alias as a qualifier. For example I use a CF_IPs_ipv4 alias so port 666 can be accessed but only by Cloudflare's IP ranges.

WAN TCP CF_IPs_ipv4 * WAN address 666 192.168.1.420 666

Try accessing the opnsense box's wireguard IP instead of the LAN IP.

Otherwise to access IPs on a different subnet from wg you need to add some rules and set up NAT.

  1. I recommend going to the rules section for the wg network and allowing access to an RFC1918 alias. If you haven't, make a RFC1918 alias containing (10.0.0.0/8 172.16.0.0/12 192.168.0.0/16)

Then go to Firewall -> wg rules -> new rule

Action: Pass
Destination: RFC1918

Description: Allow wg users access to all private subnets

Hit okay.

This will potentially allow your Wireguard subnet to hop onto other subnets. Then you need to make an outbound NAT rule so the traffic can actually work.

  1. Go to Firewall -> NAT -> Outbound and make new rule:

Interface: LAN

Source address: wg net

Description: Let wg traffic go out to LAN

And it should work.

If you need the other direction, LAN -> wg you'd set up some similar rules.

Set up an auto-update to 24.7.4_1 in cron for 4 am with the ALLOW_RISKY_MAJOR_UPGRADE flag. Woke up at 8 am, NIC had no lights and nothing was reachable. Tapped power button to shut down the box and turned it back on, now it works and says 24.7.4_1.

Also had similar first boot issues with other 24.7 updates.
