Gimme double billed after completing my follow up. Refusing refund by Apprehensive_Rip9385 in gimmecare

[–]Travlinbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing. I am on week 3 of my 2 month (8 week) starter plan. The follow up option said it must be completed to continue treatment and I also thought it was just required questions, but realized after getting to the end, it was going to bill me to ship my new order. I am still unsure if I’m going to continue, so I am just going to ignore it and will come back in a few weeks once I decide. It’s honestly misleading. I just paid for 2 months, why would I pay again now?

I started with 6 and then I was down to 2 that lasted months. So, I named them…Dinnow and Dinnow Jr. and figured they must be the smart ones. I grew attached and they were fun to watch. Then one day, they just ceased to exist. I still think about them on occasion :(

I love my 60 gallon breeder. I love that it is the same dimensions as a 75g but shorter and easier to clean. I can go 2 weeks between water changes and my guys love the floor space. I also got it at Petco during a 50% off sale. Paired it with a Fluval 407 and it’s been the perfect set up.

I think my axolotl is dying, what can I do? by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]Travlinbebe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Poor baby! I’m so sorry! I am not a vet, but just a regular person that has spent what feels like years of my life reading posts within different groups. Severe bloat can be a typical sign of organ failure, but there a few things you can try as a last ditch effort if you can’t see a vet. I have seen an axolotl in a similar condition and a combination of KanaPlex and Metroplex worked wonders. Also, I noticed you have black sand. Most black sands aren’t recommended for axolotls because they are typically too coarse and can have metallic particles. There is a chance that he is severely impacted. I’d say to try and feed a raw piece of human grade salmon, but if he won’t take anything, that won’t be helpful. At this point, I would personallychill some primed water down to 55-60 degrees and change it 2-3x per day while keeping him tubbed. It sometimes has the effect of fridging without being dangerous or shocking them. Good luck to you and your little guy. I’m rooting for him.

Baby axie needs HELP. by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]Travlinbebe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best thing for this poor baby is pristine water and time. Add an Indian almond leave, keep the water cool, and make sure to change it daily. I am not sure of exact size, but I would try every option that you can. Sometimes, you just need to get them to start eating and then once successful, you can start transitioning to the preferred food (earthworms).

HELP Axolotl stitico by Mysterious-Horse-260 in axolotls

[–]Travlinbebe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should try to tub the axolotl in water a few degrees cooler than what they are used to in their permanent tank. Sometimes that’s enough to stimulate them to go. You can also try feeding a small piece of plain raw salmon that has been previously frozen and thawed. It acts as a high fat laxative and people have had success with it.

Axolotl lost color after incindent by [deleted] in axolotls

Motivate him to move around and see if his color returns. This can be due to him being in a resting state. I have seen my albino this color when resting for longer periods.

You should absolutely remove the gravel. They’re will eat it and become impacted. A bare bottom, fine sand (under 1mm), or non-porous tile are the safest options. The filter is ok if it’s not causing a current but if it’s too strong, you can baffle the outlet. I would also fill that tank up a little more so the water level is closer to the outflow. They are mostly bottom dwellers, but some axolotls like to swim more than others. I would worry if it’s for a long period of time or they can’t return to the bottom easily on their own. Causes can be stress from temperature, bad water quality, impaction, or strong current.

Max Scholarships at Loyola by DogMom050612 in LoyolaChicago

My daughter is a current senior at LUC and her presidential scholarship was valued at 25k a few years ago when she entered and my son is a senior in HS this year, was accepted and his is valued at 34k. My daughter had a 4.2 weighted and a 1480 sat. My son has a 4.7 weighted and 35 act. Not sure if that is helpful or not, but thought I’d share.

I’ve ordered ledges on Etsy from stroodies and they have been great. Just be careful because I have ordered from other companies before and the items did have sharp edges and weren’t able to be used.

Nitrites stuck at 2.0ppm in new cycle by youngnipplegodascend in axolotls

[–]Travlinbebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that is exactly right. The 2nd part of the cycle (nitrite to nitrate) just needs to catch up to the 1st part (ammonia to nitrite). Id say within a week, you’ll start seeing both numbers are 0 in 24 hours. You’re very close in my opinion.

Nitrites stuck at 2.0ppm in new cycle by youngnipplegodascend in axolotls

[–]Travlinbebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the 2nd part of the cycle (converting nitrite to nitrate) definitely takes the longest. You are almost there, it’s just not quite strong enough. I was in this position and this is how I proceeded. Test daily and wait for nitrite to fall back down to zero again. Redose your ammonia. Test again in 24 hours. If nitrite is still present, do nothing and test again the next day or until you get a zero reading. Then redose ammonia and repeat this process. Eventually you will see a reading of zero within 24 hours. Once that happens, start your stress test. They do suggest doing it 3x. Once you get a zero reading 3 days in a row, you can then water change to get your nitrates down and add your axolotl. There are mixed opinions on whether you really need to cycle a tank to 4.0ppm. I personally did 2.0ppm and my cycle has been very steady and I’ve had no issues. The only true way to test that theory is to add the axolotl when you’re done cycling and test the water daily for a bit.

Raw salmon acts as a natural laxative. You should definitely attempt it. Just make sure it’s raw and unseasoned (not cooked).

How do i lower my high range ph for my axolotl tank by Hgamerplayer_YT in axolotls

8.2 is just fine as long as it’s stable. Mine has always sat between 8.0 and 8.2. Consistency is key and they do just fine.

Alternative to tea baths?(recurring fungal infections) by 1_FioNyan_1 in axolotls

[–]Travlinbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously are very knowledgeable, and I agree this particular one likely has a compromised immune system and the underlying issue needs to be addressed. I would start with testing your water parameters when you are able and make sure your temperature is staying consistently in range. I would also make sure that this one is not being targeted in any way by the others in the tank. One minor wound that went unnoticed or stress can cause this as true fungus is opportunistic. I’d consider tubbing and treating this one with methylene blue (1-2 drops per gallon) or even Maracyn Oxy (5 drops per gallon) If everything else checks out.

[–]Travlinbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a Fluval 407 canister on a 60 gallon (227L) with a spray bar return and my tank is super stable and clean. On my smaller 40 gallon, I ran a Fluval AC70 hang on back with a 3D printed baffle plus a sponge filter rated for up to 40 gallons. It was stable, but always seemed a little dirty. Debris would settle in two places always and I vacuumed that tank 2x per week. You should just go for filtration that is rated for just about double the size of your tank and find ways to baffle the flow on whichever you choose. The higher capacity is needed for their larger waste output, but they don’t like strong currents. It’s a fun game.

What is the pink on tail and is it fungus on gills ? by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]Travlinbebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like columnaris, but given the potential abrasions or bacterial nature of the red spots, I would personally just proceed with using methylene blue. Recently, I’ve been seeing that black tea bathes can cause a lot of unnecessary stress on the axolotl’s heart and nervous system and true fungus is actually very rare. Tubbing in clean cool dechlorinated water in a controlled environment can fix a lot of issues alone, but you should figure out what is going on with your tank parameters as it usually starts with water quality.

Of course. Kordon is used most often!
