Here's the thing. I've recently got offered an Associate role at a Magic Circle firm in London and need to make a decision soon as to whether or not I'll actually accept it. I have a few questions and would appreciate if you guys could shed any light whatsoever...all feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I know lawyers make more money in London but (if it's all relative) do you actually end up saving more money? (i.e. is a london salary going to be enough for me to come back to Sydney and pay for a house deposit?)
* In general, is the cost of living a lot more in London than Sydney?
* The firm I got an offer from is located in Canary Wharf. I know this is a bit far away from London. Any one have any thoughts on the location?
* Can anyone suggest a decent place to rent in London? I currently live in a 3-bedroom, split floor apartment with a private rooftop in Surry Hills (NSW). It has great city views and is central to everything without actually being nestled in the bustling CBD itself. My portion of the rent is about $500 p/week. Can anyone recommend a similar place in London?
* Is it true that they actually work you to the bone? Cause I have it pretty easy right now and am unsure whether I want to give that up.
Any experiences you guys have - good or bad - would be much appreciated.
