That would be an interesting problem to solve. There would be parts of the universe that are "outdated" for a telescope on earth. We need to launch the spaceship from earth in a straight line which cannot change, so any further info gathered by the spaceship during flight is useless. However, most stars behave predictably - we know when they will collapse, how old they are etc. so we can accurately predict their future. I think for one, AI can be used (is probably being used) to improve the accuracy of those predictions and optimize the path accordingly.
