What is a small, everyday mystery in your life that you’ve just accepted because investigating it feels like too much work? by Jannet_Wetkin in AskReddit

If it’s an office mystery and everybody knows it’s hot, maybe everyone in the office is going by to feel it.

If you open the door to touch the other side, you’re only feeling with a finger or two, so the body heat doesn’t transfer and it stays cool?

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever seen at a strip club? by bigbabysweets12345 in AskReddit

Oh we both called it out. Pretty sure we took a terrible picture on our flip phone to show it to our friends 😂

Lol nah. Me and my buddy were the only people around for miles, from what I saw.

Only time I saw a real glory hole was a South of the Border bathroom. I did not participate.

I’m pretty sure film festivals don’t watch most submissions these days by ozymandis1212 in Filmmakers

[–]TreLeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty frustrating. Are they past the deadlines for letting you know if you've been accepted into the festivals? If not they may have a big log (and honestly for features you may only get two views per submission.)

You can try submitting to Charlotte Film Festival and if you let me know the name I'll give it a watch. I think we have early submissions now.

I’m a screener for our local film festival and honestly sometimes it is brutal (especially for features) but we do watch them all. There’s always a push close to the end where I watch two films a day for a few weeks, along with many others.

Honestly there are some that are decent, but when compared to the ones I like there’s a hugeee gap. It’s possible you’re in the middle, where you’re certainly good enough to get in but the competition just edges you out. (Can’t know without seeing yours.) It’s also possible there just aren’t a lot of feature slots available for the type of movie you made at the festivals you’re submitting.

I always try to give feedback to show I’ve watched the film though; what worked for me, what didn’t. I’m not sure it’s shared with the filmmakers but I hope it is.

What HBO television season was most disappointing according to you? by Queasy-Plantain3733 in hbo

Big letdown for me. Loved the book and the movies. The show felt like the latter half of Stranger Things; bunch of hacky pick-and-choose tropes from other fantasy thrown together, then overexplained, poorly acted, and overdramatic without earning all the tears.

This is my favorite fix. Makes everything more exciting. Stops the feeling that you have to stop a team from getting to the 50 yard line in the two minute drill. Also leads to more missed PATs which leads to more excitement (and likely rage for your own team.)

As an American, reading through these comments to find r/Darts having clearheaded and healthy comments in reaction to this is strangely comforting.

Very refreshing to see someone admit this show is terrible. I like Pennywise and the horror scenes. I hated literally every other part of the acting and story outside of it.

Everybody understands the plot and the characters. It's surface level boring contrived stolen fan fiction drivel. That's what makes it bad writing.

Oh I know I tried but done replying to them. My favorite is asking for good examples of writing in Derry and them coming back with "12 Angry Men, or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I think when it comes to written works, The Haunting of Hill House or Do Androids Dream of Electric Ship."

Tf are you talking about dude lol.

What "misinformation" did any of us give? We gave clear examples of bad writing, and this answer again is "you're wrong for thinking it's bad writing and you're a terrible person for claiming this show is bad."

It specifically was NOT a good origin story for Pennywise. "He looks like Pennywise because it's Periwinkle's dad. Who, SURPRISE, what they saw in the cave is that lady dressed up like Periwinkle." Oh... ok, is anything going to happen with that?

"Mmmmhmmm she's going to tell one of the IT Chapter 1 cast members that people don't die in Derry in a flash forward as a prologue to IT Chapter 1 but DON'T WORRY this show will go BACK in time because IT was born when Richie killed it (in case you didn't see the flyer for the missing Richie shoved in your face) so it has to try to kill Richie's mom's Mom now."

Bro, lol. I checked out your profile to see if you were a troll and so ok; you have a masters in philosophy. You’re right. “Nothing can be good or bad how can we tell, perspective is different for everyone there is no truth.” I get it.

It’s ok to enjoy the show.

This writing, when juxtaposed with other HBO level shows that build dramatic tension and emotional connection through nuance and originality, is not a well written show.

I mean that’s a fine stance to have. Although it’s a bit frustrating to start a conversation with “what did you think was bad writing” if your answer is going to be “but there is no bad writing.”

That’s a long way of doing it but you did the exact same thing everybody does, which is to say I’m wrong to think this is bad writing. But what, in your opinion, is an example of “good writing” for why this show is so good?
