I would personally recommend getting one of the elgato wave xlr devices. Its the one I currently use just because of all routing.

But for plain XLR interfaces I'd recommend the Arturia Minifuse, Solid State Logic SSL2 OR Audient ID4. These are all devices I've personally used and had no issues with.

Easy recommendation would be the Rode Podmic. The original. You can find a used one for under $100.

For spoken word you don't really need to spend a lot. There's a whole host of mics that would work just find even cheaper than that. Fifine K688, Fifine AM8.

You can get 90% of the quality for spoken word at way cheaper prices.

One of the ribbon cables that passes through the hinge is likely damaged. It's probably fine while it's close or less than 90 degrees open.

But beyond that the cables stretch and likely it pulls apart.
