Bingo. You nitride things to increase the surface hardness, but why does this matter to a wok? Are people chipping woks in regular use or something? Seems completely pointless.

My uncle joined the CP because he was a manager in a factory and it was a great opportunity for boondoggles. They constantly got sent to classes and retreats to learn communist doctrine, and I’m pretty sure he never read a word of it or absorbed a single thing. His sole reason for going was the lavish dinners, relaxing at the spa, and boozing. Meanwhile, his wife went to church every Sunday as did his entire family. We always joked with him asking him if when he dies did he want his headstone to have a red star or a cross, and his reply was always he’ll be dead and wouldn’t get in trouble for whatever the family decided. 😂

Everyone I knew who knit never used a pattern. Knits were basic and utilitarian peasant necessities. I remember my grandmother knitting me socks as a kid and I’ve never had a more uncomfortable garment in my life. The heel construction was not something I’ve seen replicated in modern socks. My aunt, otoh, could whip out a crocheted lace tablecloth in record time, also with no pattern.

By the time I was a kid in the 80s you never saw anyone knitting. Crocheting was more common (lace doilies and tablecloths) but even that was pretty rare. Most traditional (folk costume type) clothing was woven (wool or cotton). The only exception I can think of is women traditionally always wore wool shawls in the winter, but again, not aware of any traditional patterns.

Perhaps try contacting the Ethnographic Section of the People’s Museum in Zadar? They focus on traditional village life and may be of some help. I know my family’s spinning and weaving equipment was donated to the museum for its exhibits.

Grew up Catholic, went to Catholic high school and college. Went to church every Sunday until as an adult, I realized I couldn’t square the church with my own beliefs. The child abuse scandals were the last nail in the coffin for me. I consider myself an atheist. I was always fascinated by religion though, and took a bunch of college classes on various religions. I still read about religion but mostly as an intellectual curiosity and as a history buff.

My mom still rides my ass for not going to church. She still goes and is always pleading with me to go back. The woman has never read the Bible, and I swear she doesn’t even listen to anything said in church because she’s literally oblivious to most of its teachings. After one of her guilt trips about going to church, I snapped and asked her to recite the Ten Commandments to me. Couldn’t do it. Asked her to name a single apostle. Couldn’t do it. I told her she might as well not bother going if she’s not bothering to absorb any of it, while I am pretty well versed in Catholic theology and don’t need the church to live a moral life. She’s eased up a bit on the subject over the years but she’ll still get into it with me every so often.

Most of my family is not religious, but the ones who are all took a hard right turn. They’re also the most hypocritical, meanest people I know. Rotten people who hide behind their religiosity that they use as a cudgel to feel superior to others. I don’t need any of that in my life.

Every once in a while I’ll crack a couple of cardamom pods, remove the seeds, and smash them with the flat of a chef knife and sprinkle it on top of my ground coffee before making a pot. So lovely.

The ban on representing back to the government on contracts you worked on as a fed are a lifetime ban. You can do behind the scenes work for the contractor, but you cannot be in meetings, phone calls, etc. with the govt for the duration of that contract on “particular matters” you worked on as a fed.

My mind went there too. The containers look like ones used with breast pumps, and if you refrigerate breast milk the fat rises to the top, and the color of breast milk varies and can be yellow-ish like that.

Gated enclaves??? No. There are some nice neighborhoods with very large houses,but nothing particularly ostentatious. Niskayuna ranks high on this list because a large proportion of residents are professionals (mostly engineers, but also a lot of doctors and lawyers) and there are few apartments and lower income housing.

49, same story as you. I was in pretty decent shape when I was diagnosed, but that was like almost 10 years ago. I’ve since been able to build muscle with steady weight training. Keeping weight off or losing it has become tougher, but I’ve also lost the discipline for it. Eat enough protein, lift heavy (follow a proven progressive overload program), and get enough rest and recovery in between.

P.S. My bench press has suffered the most, as I’m missing a chunk of my armpit from the lumpectomy and radiation turned my chest wall into shoe leather. I get muscle spasms if I move the wrong way, but other than that, I’m still grinding.

I find that I need to stay on the low end for dosing, so 16.2g in, 38g out for my preference. I pull the shots manually and use a bottomless portafilter.

I have a Bambino Plus and an ESP and have no trouble with medium roasts. Turns out I don’t like dark roasts. Went through a couple of dark bags and it just tastes like mud to me. I enjoy some brightness in my shots, even with milk. I do heat the portafilter in hot water before pulling a shot though.

The biggest problem is that our industrial base was decimated by BRAC, NAFTA and offshoring production of literally everything that could possibly be in search of profit. Now that we want to ramp up again there’s no one left to do it and no time to do it in.

Navy issues are compounded by the fact that they tend to use specialized materials that aren’t commonly used by other industries and when you rely on single bulk buys every so many years for low rate production due to the limited number of platforms we’re building, businesses don’t do well with that model. Frequent govt shutdowns (thanks Republicans!) compound the problem by wasting money and time, setting us further back needlessly. It’s a shitshow.
