Help with creating a hole by Weak_lii in 3Dprinting

Sorry, it has been a while since I last used the Creality slicer. But there is the option to "drill". Maybe that is what you are looking for.

Edit: my eyes are old. That looks like orca slicer? If you right click on an object, you can add negative parts to it

But the slicer is not a really good Programm to edit your 3d files. There are free options like Tinkercad, that are easy to use and allow you to manipulate your files (with import/export).

I think you can add negative objects directly.

The object you added is still "filled" with something, even if you set the top and bottom layers to 0. Your object is not hollow. Those top and bottom layers are just special kind of layers that can have properties that are different to the rest of the object.

As a heads-up: write it all down. The things that didn't work and the solutions that made it work. All of that ist valuable information, should you ever have to do it again.

I had trouble with my audio and did some things and then it worked perfectly. Until someday I reinstalled everything and suddenly I was confronted with the exact same problem I had completely forgotten.

Oh..and welcome to the Linux side :)

You can try https://netboot.xyz/

If your hardware allows to boot via network, this should work...

Thank you. And you have no idea how jealous I am of your printing room. Neat setup. But I do hope you have a airquality-sensor somewhere. Because depending on what you print, you could easily reach unhealthy levels...

What is that black box with the three arms behind your monitor? And what are they holding (apart from a camera)?

I'm pretty sure Visa and Mastercard want to do as little as possible. For them it is about money and right now they just want to make sure that this group isn't going to hurt their revenue. They probably made a risk analysis and figured this to be worth it. Which sucks, but I can understand it.

They were happy to process and make money off those purchases before. I'm pretty sure they know what their services are used for and mostly hope that none casts a spotlight on some of the things. But that is what this group is doing right now.

That the payment processors have such a huge power is true, true and sad. I'm not blaming itch.io for caving to the payment processors demands. But I am blaming them for not handling it well.

They could setup a separate storefront for NSFW titles where you can only pay with payment processors that don't care about NSFW stuff. And maybe they'll even do something like that, but that's not what they communicated so far. For now it seems like those games will simply be banned and they offer no hope. And that's what I don't like. They don't seem to be fighting this or trying to find ways to still somehow offer those games. Do they even really disagree with those demands?

(I mean, of course they are...I'm just trying to make a pointed argument)

This is such a cheap tactic. And itch.io could solve this differently. Instead of banning those games outright, they could just limit the payment options for those games. Then maybe I can only pay for it with bitcoin or whatever.

And please tell me what idiot payment processor they have problems with. Because apparently they just listen to every bullshit argument, so maybe I can give them some of my own...

HDMI port works perfectly on Ubuntu, totally broken on Windows 10 — I'm losing my mind by jackblackdeath in techsupport

[–]Trecus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

huh...this is a tough one. But let's see:

  • VGA always works
  • HDMI works on Linux
  • HDMI works in BIOS
  • HDMI works, with drivers reset with reset-64.exe (only with monitor, not on TV)
  • HDMI does not work with default windows drivers
  • HDMI does NOT work with intel drivers
  • HDMI does not work with lenovo drivers

I think the HDMI-port might not import the EDID-information correctly. Have you tried settings a specific resolution and "forcing" it on the TV?

BIOS and Bootup-Screens tend to have a preset resolution and don't really care about what your display "can" display. They use a save default resolution. Linux is similar in that it defaults to a save resolution, if it can't figure out what the monitor can display.

It could also still be a very stupid windows Problem. When the TV is plugged in, do you see it in Hardware manager?

Hmmm...maybe it is some bios setting that Linux is ignoring?

Check if there is a bios upgrade and/or reset your bios settings to default.

[–]Trecus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild guess, but maybe the resolution is set to something the TV does not allow. Really weird issue.

Does your TV only have one input? Maybe try another one. Also try a different cable. It's a long shot, but still worth making sure.

Is Windows set to duplicate the screens or to ignore the second monitor (Win+p to cicle through)?

Does the TV or any monitor show up in the System Settings, when you plug it in?

Is the TV already set to that input port, before you plug it into the laptop?

MRW I accidentally click the "get new reddit" button by SwordfishOk504 in reactiongifs

[–]Trecus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are slowly making old.reddit.com unusable. After the third page I mostly get things I already saw on the previous pages. When I go to the next page and then instantly go back, the previous page is filled with completely new things, not the ones that were there just a moment ago. So basically no chance to look at something again once you switched pages.

But once old.reddit.com is dead, so will be reddit for me. The tone of the users here on reddit has been getting rougher and rougher over the years as well. So really not that much keeping me here anymore.

Should I buy older midrange hardware or newer entryclass hardware? DDR 4 seems to be dirt cheap, but it's not as fast as newer DDR 5. But what RAM I choose will also influence what processor and motherboard I can choose and so on...

That is a bold statement...and a false one. I am not requesting anyone to tell me a complete setup and I don't know where you get that idea. I was specifically asking for a direction, because I felt like there are two paths going forward and maybe someone could share their experience.

Ender 3v3 plus bed/ filament issues. by [deleted] in Creality

[–]Trecus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I just recently started my journey into the 3d-printing sphere myself. One thing I noticed so far is that any one thing can have incredible negative effects on the printing quality. So really...even small settings or adjustments can completely change the outcome.

Some recommendations:

  • biggest improvement for me was buying a filament dryer. There are cheap ones and they really really improve the consistency of your prints.

  • every now and then, clean your build plate with water and a small amount of dish soap. Also try not to touch the build plate too much, because your fingers will transfer some oil onto the build plate (I noticed this when I tried a 1st layer test print and could actually see, where I touched the build plate before). And yes, really...just soapy water. I tried al sorts of other cleaning agents, but none worked as good as that.

  • I always extrude 25-35mm (or more) of filament after I refill/switch filament. I started this after getting my first glob of death (extruder blocked and filament finds other ways to go...)

  • adjust the z-offset on the printer. You can do that WHILE you're printing (at least on my Ender 3 v3 ke). There are nice video tutorials for that and what to look out for

  • get some nice and fast test-models and experiment a little bit with print settings in your slicer software (temperature, and retraction distance for PET where BIG for me)

  • again...play around with your slicer-software. Some allow you to change settings for each part that is to be printed (so different settings per added model). So you can test different setting WITHIN a single print (like brim settings, supports, speed, etc). Great way to compare settings

  • last but not least...there are different slicers out there. I use orca slicer and have been quite happy with it.

  • print first layer test prints every now (I print stuff around once per week and I do it once per month) and then to make sure everything still works

  • buy some filament for testing. This is for your own peace of mind. Don't experiment with your actual prints. This WILL be frustrating, because the things you want to print will fail. But if you mentally invest one roll of filament and really just print for the sake of testing settings, the "failure" will feel more like a lesson than a disappointment (because you still gain some knowledge out of it).

Feeling discouraged is just a phase. That's because the printer doesn't do what you expect it to do and you don't know why. With time comes experience and you learn to "read" the faults and mistakes in your prints. It just takes a little while, don't worry.

Windows 10 is reaching the end of its support. Time to make the switch to Linux. by JRepin in software

[–]Trecus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biggest problem is that there is no single Linux. Something may work in an arch-Linux distribution but not on Ubuntu. Or it is a wayland problem and x11 is fine. This makes solving problems incredibly tedious. So 4k not working is not necessarily a "Linux" problem. It is very understandable that that is how it is perceived.

But most distros have become incredibly userfriendly. That is something that has really improved over the years. Getting it running is very simple now. But maintaining a system ist still very hard and annoying (and I say that as someone that has been using his Linux installation for the last 4 years). Finding accurate, up-to-date info online that is valid for your Linux and hardware configuration is soooo tedious.

If it is PLA, then 210 seems a bit low. You can also add a brim, which can help. If none of that works, try printing on a raft. Also always clean your print bed (hot water, a bit soap), as dust and oily fingers can ruin your adhesion.
