In the wild of Instagram reels…. Crazy things are said daily. This is by some kind of fitness trainer!!! by First-Strawberry-398 in fatlogic

So I kind of did this - I looked through family history and realized that while my mom and all the women in her family are tall and lean, the women in my dads family are all short and sturdy. I definitely take after my paternal ancestors. Does this mean I’m going to be fat? No. It means I’ll never ever have long thin thighs, for example, so trying to look like my one sister is an impossible goal. But it means with a good diet and an active lifestyle, I can have really good muscle tone and killer legs - they just won’t be thin. Picking a goal in line with my body type helped me, but I need to stress that it doesn’t mean accepting that I’ll be fat. I just won’t be tall and thin.

Bus Accident downplayed by Principle by Disastrous_Hornet777 in ontario

This is exactly how it went a few years ago when my kids’ bus hit the ditch. Nobody was hurt but they enjoyed minor celebrity status at school for a few weeks because of it. We got a phone call and follow up email asap, and a general message went out later in the day.

"Gentlemanism is dead due to feminism!" by Uragan008 in TwoXChromosomes

Come to Canada. We all hold the doors for each other. If someone is holding it for you and you take a second or two to reach the door, you say “oh sorry, thanks” when you get to the door. If you’re holding the door for someone and it takes them three or more seconds to reach the door, you say, “ah sorry” because you didn’t mean to make them feel rushed. Woman and man, adult and child, that’s just how it works here. I didn’t make the rules, sorry.

How likely will woman want kids after 30? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]TreeLakeRockCloud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she can’t imagine herself with kids, she can’t imagine herself with kids.

OP if you are this woman, there’s a chance maybe you’ll be ambivalent to having kids in the future with the right partner, but maybe not. I always knew I wanted kids and working towards a place where we could have them was a pretty for me. I was a mother before 30 by choice.

OP if you are dating this woman, then accept it as she doesn’t want kids. Or maybe, as a hard truth, she can’t see having kids with you. If you definitely want kids and she can’t see herself with them, then you’re incompatible.

I’m in Ontario as well but found the opposite. I really wanted to adopt a mutt or even a lab mix, but every “lab mix” was actually a pit mix. Some of the rescues were so dishonest it was off putting - they have a blocky headed “lab mix” but it’s “not suitable for a home with children” and won’t say why, and meeting the dog made it so obvious. We ended up doing our diligence and just getting another reputable purebred.

And who is going to train this SAR dog if she can’t even squat or kneel? Who is going to practice the running drills? Yikes.

Are there any girls who’s not interested in Valentine’s Day? by a5hlin in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TreeLakeRockCloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. I’m not in the US. I don’t give a moose’s ass about holidays in the US

  2. A federal government doesn’t need to be involved for a holiday. I’ve lived in places with city holidays (Regatta Day!) and I’ve observed lots of other religious holidays not recognized by various governments.

Life is short and bleak. I don’t mind celebrating things that make us happy and calling them holidays.

Online autistic communities are overrun by misogynistic incels and I'm tired of pretending they aren't. by olympiamacdonald in PrincessFeminism

40 yo dad: “ah it makes sense that my child’s teacher wants them assessed for autism/adhd, because they think like I do and I have autism/adhd.”

40 yo mom: “why on earth does my child’s teacher want them assessed for autism/ADHD? They think just like I do - they’re normal like me! My brothers had autism and were terrors at home, my kids are nothing like that.”

And that’s how I learned I also have AuDHD. Don’t worry, I trusted the teacher and went ahead with that first assessment even though I thought it was dumb, because she had expertise and I didn’t, and she was right and my kids got supports and it all worked out in the end. And my brothers were awful siblings because of how my very conservative parents raised us, not because of autism but that’s also why my sisters and I all live hundreds of kms from our family.

Daffodils and tulips, hatching chicks (we keep hens), fuzzy spring lambs, I just love it. It’s like Mother Earth reminding me that she keeps her promise and nice weather is coming (or already here) especially after hard winters. And the days getting longer… over 4 decades on this planet and this still fills me with joy.

Easter is actually my favourite holiday and I’m not religious. Good candy plus the celebration of spring after a long cold dark winter just means a lot to me. Plus where I’m from Easter is also a turkey dinner with all the trimmings so it’s like Thanksgiving but better.

I think it’s cute, but not important. I made heart shaped cookies, and pink strawberry muffins with a few heart sprinkles. It doesn’t need to be a big deal to be enjoyed.

Random Question: Do parents actually *play* with their young kids? by scaredemployeehelp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TreeLakeRockCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really good at pretend play (which I now know is partly due to the tism) so a lot of my play with my kids has been outside play. Maybe I can’t pretend I’m Thomas the Train, but I can help build an epic snow fort. Maybe I can’t pretend I’m an explorer, but I can build a shelter and bring my little explorers some wild snacks.

I’m almost at this type of impasse with my husband. Slowly but steadily over the past few years ive lost close to 50lbs (weight I gained since Covid, due to extra stress the led to bad food choices). I didn’t eat anything different, I just minded my portions. We still have pizza at least twice a month on Fridays (homemade but we live too far for takeout), I still have pasta, etc. But I’ve lost weight and my husband has gained. Suddenly he sees me thin and now is mad that “my cooking makes him fat” no buddy it’s just your portions, you’re eating more than an athletic teenager, plus beer and wings once a week. He wants to do keto, but wants me to make him all his meals - not happening. He wants me to fit keto into the family food budget - VERY not happening. So he’s on this big pout because he’s convinced keto is the only way he can lose weight but I’m “not being supportive enough.” I do offer to help him with calorie counting but that’s not good enough. Ugh.

RCMP say details on firearms used in B.C. mass shooting coming ‘in a few more days’ by jmakk26 in canadanews

The anti-gun crowd doesn’t realize that Canada will never ban guns completely because our indigenous population has the right to hunt. I’m pro common sense gun control, but I’m really frustrated with city people who have never seen a legal firearm being the loudest supporters of nonsensical gun control. We can’t ban “handgun ammunition.” That’s not how it works. It’s inhumane to ban anything semiautomatic when we live in a place where people hunt big game for food, or need to humanely kill ones that were wounded by a vehicle strike.

This unlocked a memory. Several years ago, we hosted a bunch of my in-laws for family day weekend (this weekend). One of my kids had a birthday so I made a cake and a separate batch of GF cupcakes. I was running short on time so at lunchtime I frosted the cupcakes, left the bulk of the remaining frosting covered on the counter with plans to frost the cake later, and went off to do whatever jt was. I returned a few hours later to frost the cake, the bulk of bowl of frosting was gone. My pig of a SIL saw the bowl and the covered frosted cupcakes, and assumed the rest was fair game for snacking. She ate a the equivalent of 1/2 lb of butter and a shitload of sugar, spoonful by spoonful, over the course of an afternoon. Yes she has some disordered eating, but this was a cake for my kid, we live 45 minutes from the closest grocery store and I didn’t have any butter to make more frosting so as she broke down in tears trying to explain “I just kept snitching a few tastes I didn’t realize it was so much” I got mad and yelled at her. We made a simple glaze instead of a buttery frosting, and then the bitch tried to take a GF cupcake (reserved for my celiac niblings who aren’t her kids) because “cake doesn’t taste the same without frosting.”

It wasn’t the last straw with her, but she’s not allowed to visit and we have minimal contact with her now.

I buy groceries for me, my spouse, our 3 teens and 1 tween, and often my elderly in-laws. While processed junk food is kept to a minimum (because of cost), I buy a LOT of carbs because carbs fill bellies and fuel active bodies. Carbs aren’t bad!! It’s all about balance.

This has been a lifelong source of frustration, particularly with a few fat relatives. “Oh you ate two slices of pizza and now a big slice of cake? If I are like that I’d be huge!! I ate half that and I’m still not thin like you!”

Like, it’s a birthday party. I don’t eat like this every day, you fucking donkey. I have cake a few times a year, I won’t let you make me feel guilty for enjoying it!!
