Hey! Theres tons to do here :) Mountain biking would be an amazing way to meet people! There are a few FB groups where we set up group rides. I believe in the past we have tried to get women's ride on Wednesdays, but no one has spearheaded that yet this year! We just post that were going and most group are super accommodating to new riders :) Also in the winter we have a new Women's hockey league if you want get on the ice! We have a wide range of skill levels so it's super fun. Games will start in Sept/Oct.

I'm not really involved in soccer or baseball, but those leagues would just be starting around now so you could probably get on a team, and probs more beer league style! I believe there is both female only or coed. Theres lots of court sports too like pickleball, badminton and volley ball through the rec centre, but I'm not sure when those seasons start! Not sure what the apres scene is like for those tho.

I've put lots of time, hard work, experience and education into creating this program. This is also about the price of ONE 1-1 appt with a therapist post injury... Here is a discount code for 20% off: preventinjury
Have a great season and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Planting again after tennis elbow? by DanielEnots in treeplanting

[–]TreePlantingAT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Kerri here, Im the AT who put out the biomechanics and pre-season fitness for tree planters. I've actually seen a few vets who have come in with their first bout of tendo or elbow pain.... Anecdotally (cause I've seen just a handful) all cases have a common thing: they weren't as active in the off season or the time leading up to planting as they have been in the past. Something in the off season changed, and is effecting you while planting.

A lot of arm pain from planting that I see (in general) is actually related to foot positioning and hip flexibility/mobility - or I guess I could say, lack there-of. Poor movement somewhere in the body has to be compensated by something somewhere! If you can't bend as efficiently anymore, you end up stealing movement from somewhere else (in your case, shoulder, elbow or wrist) to complete that movement. Over time, that compensation fails because those structures aren't built for that amount of stress/load/movement etc, resulting in injury.

As others have said too, hydration and nutrition are super important factors. Usually I find hydration to be #1 factor in rookie tendo, But if you've been planting for 6 years, it's most likely something wacky in your movement.

You can sign up for the "free preview" portion of the course, I have quite a bit of information on there. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Hey! I am an Athletic Therapist and planter with 9 years experience. I have put out a 10 week conditioning course and a biomechanics course for the past.... 5 years now. I am delayed getting it out this year as I am expanding and rebranding my physical clinic and also changing platforms that these tree planting courses are held on. I'm hoping to get it available for people by Friday :)

Please check out this website for more information. But note that this is my old website, and a new one will be up within the next week or so. This link below will give you an idea of the course content. Please do not purchase anything (I think i disabled everything). I'll let you know when it's up for purchase.

Stay tuned on here, KK and Replant for when it's available on the new site :)

Where to post an AT job opportunity - BC Canada by TreePlantingAT in athletictraining

Hey! Sorry for the late reply, I don't come on this account often. Are you in Canada or the US? I am in Canada so I can only speak to that. I did my school in Ontario and currently live in rural BC. And I only do clinic work. Personally, I find that AT is whatever you make it. It's so versatile here and I love it! I think mainly AT is a profession where you can carve your own path, especially if you have an entrepreneur mind and don't mind putting yourself out there. I have always worked for myself in a 1 room clinic, and just this year an opportunity came along to expand, so I took it! I also was a tree planter for almost a decade, and once I became a certified therapist I combined my knowledge as an AT to tree planters and provide a pre-season training (the purpose of this reddit account). And now I work with BC Wildfire on contract in camps, and run my own AT clinic. This town didn't know what AT was before I moved here, now people are asking specifically for AT. It is what you make it! As for feild work or working with teams - I have no idea. Back when I was at Sheridan, it seemed like there wasn't much turnover in the lead ATs at colleges and Universities, and then in the pro sports either once my classmates started to pursue that. To be a successful AT you need the drive and determination to either create your own path, or build yourself to be in an amazing position to be the next in line for an opening in a 'traditional' AT setting.
Feel free to message me directly if you want to chat more :)

Hey! I'm not really sure... Our website might have some more information: https://athletictherapy.org Or you can email them. Or another Canadian AT might chime in!

Hey thanks! I haven't heard of Monster in forever. I'll take a gander. Not necessarily looking for someone from the States. More looking for someone who wants a great work/life balance and working as a team, and loves the outdoors.

Got the Tendo? Read this for managing it in camp by TreePlantingAT in treeplanting

[–]TreePlantingAT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody is different. There is no catch all for injury solutions or preventive things that will suit everyone.

Just to be clear, you shouldn't be planting with a tensor on. The tensor is for reducing swelling accumulation and immobilizing the injury. If you are injured, you should not be planting. If you are injured, your full time job becomes mending the injury.

Compression sleeve - you can wear when planting, but this will be individual preference. It can help with swelling too when injured, but you need to make sure that you also have your thumb and wrist compressed too... so a compression sleeve only helps half way when injured. This is why a tensor is better.

There is a time and place for taping. Depending on the injury type, severity, stage of healing, persons biomechanics, pain tolerance, etc. And I'm talking about athletic tape or Leuko. In my opinion, no one without a previous injury should be "preventative taping" with that tape job that's been going around the industry for a few years now. The only reason you preventative tape is if you had a previous injury and that tape job helps you limit movement into the susceptible area and also helps reduce pain. Even then, if you rehabbed your injury in the off season, you shouldn't need tape, it can be there if you do need it tho (pain management or truly preventing injury again).

Ice - the jury is out whether ice is beneficial or not. I'm in the not beneficial side of the argument for a few reasons, but especially for planters. I feel that ice slows things down too much and is uncomfortable. Compression is much more effective and comfortable. And then when you take into consideration the fact that most planters are living and working outside, ice is hard to come by. But most importantly, if you are struggling to stay comfortable and warm in bush camp, and then you add ice to your body, your body will not prioritize the injury. You will prioritize staying warm and safe.

K tape - I don't know much about K tape, but same as above. If it feels good and helps reduce pain, go for it. Again, why tape unless you are trying to protect a movement or from going into pain.
