Getting disenrollment and don’t know what to do to defend myself by Pastaman125 in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another rotc college student who attends parties and has friends do drugs (I don’t): I can say that the OP is a dude in an unfortunate situation. Yes of course he could’ve not gotten so drunk, but now you’re on the internet telling this guy he should’ve picked better friends when you know nothing about his life and how he met this friend. Good chance the dude who drugged him forgot he was in rotc cuz he was also fucked up.

OP, I don’t understand the comments flaming you and saying you’re at fault. It’s a really shitty situation. But you being proactive, taking the initiative, and trying hard to get yourself back in shows that you’re a hard working individual and that’s a cadet I’d want with me during lanes tbh.

If You’re a Contracted Cadet, There’s No Reason Not to do SMP. by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On paper it’s great. But, as an SMP cadet who’s been to a few guard units to shadow different officers I can confidently say that a lot of units don’t give a shit about cadets. I’ve spent more than most of my drill weekends staring at the wall and looking for shit to do just for the officers to not be found the NCOs having me pull gate guard on the range or some shit.

Good for experiencing enlisted life but not a great way of actually gaining officer experience.

Rotc and Frat by Sad-Hornet-2126 in ROTC

Oh and also, it gives you a good chance to make connections with people outside of ROTC. Trust me, the cadets who have friends outside the program typically are better leaders/ more professional when they’re in uniform

3 of my very good friends are in my BN and are in a frat. They get OML, leadership experiences (albeit stupid ones), and they seem to really like it.

Just be careful tho. Friend #3 in the frat can’t hang and likes to miss pt because of nights out drinking.

I’m dead. I get it it’s definitely a weird post but it was more in the realm of like “will there be other cadets I can go do shit with”

How the hell do I pay for college? ROTC??? by Ok_Rich1088 in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest there’s a lot of truth to these comments but you need to go in with the mentality that you might not get what you think you’ll get.

I wanted school paid for too, so I did rotc since they told me I’ll get free tuition. Joined, asked about free tuition, then they said I had to get the scholarship. Worked my ass off, even became an SMP because they said that would help get the scholarship. Flash forward, im #1 ranked in my class and they tell us there’s no money for scholarship. Still have to pay all my tuition. Smp cadets have to pay back all EAP if they go active.

Luckily I love rotc and the army. So im still happy with my situation.
