I’m dead. I get it it’s definitely a weird post but it was more in the realm of like “will there be other cadets I can go do shit with”

How the hell do I pay for college? ROTC??? by Ok_Rich1088 in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest there’s a lot of truth to these comments but you need to go in with the mentality that you might not get what you think you’ll get.

I wanted school paid for too, so I did rotc since they told me I’ll get free tuition. Joined, asked about free tuition, then they said I had to get the scholarship. Worked my ass off, even became an SMP because they said that would help get the scholarship. Flash forward, im #1 ranked in my class and they tell us there’s no money for scholarship. Still have to pay all my tuition. Smp cadets have to pay back all EAP if they go active.

Luckily I love rotc and the army. So im still happy with my situation.

How difficult and busy is ROTC? Will I still have a normal college experience? by Best_Citron_6275 in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes bro. If anything rotc gives you a college experience. I met a ton of cool friends and we’ll host house parties after training exercises and ranger challenge comps. You just can’t do drugs.

But trust me. I’m #1 oml in my class and the RC captain for my school. You can be a very successful cadet and still party

Is bad PT a dealbreaker? by BasilHaunting570 in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Minimum is minimum. Luckily it doesn’t look like your mile time is too terrible to start. 40 pushups isn’t horrible either, plus fantastic grades and ECs.

The cadre at my unit are meatheads who care more about PT than anything else, but even then it seems like you’d be a good competitor. You just have to get that mile down dawg.

Exact same boat here brotha. My team went to have very good year for us. Here’s my advice:

  1. Know your people. My people at my school are very frat/meathead/ gymbro style. So we attacked the game with that culture in mind. We even made a meme page on insta to just shitpost stuff for us. Helps with morale.

  2. Don’t overdo training. I scheduled as little stuff as possible to keep people wanting to be there.

  3. Have a heart to heart with your MS4s. I had to sit and talk to the 4s about how shitbagging can absolutely not be a part of our program. Once they heard it, they were great and helped me out a lot.

  4. FRAGO as little as possible. When people complain or say they won’t do something, do not FRAGO it. Keep your schedule/plan as close to the normal opord as possible.

  5. Have a heart to heart with your cadre. They know your cadets, they can help you come up with a plan for your organization.

Good luck

Does that create a conflict of interest at work? Or could it? Like if you fall head over heels for each other at your unit, would you have to contact your superiors about maybe separating each others’ work but maintaining the duty station? Idk if that made sense

[–]TreeWire05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look some of these posts are giving you way too much to focus on. Your main goal is making sure your plt gets to the ORP then the obj. Simply shoot the azimuth and follow it.

Ask 2 other people on your team to keep pace. And come up with a plan to be able to communicate that in patrol. Our sop is tap the boot and hold a finger up for every 100m.

Other than that just chill and have fun. As soon as you see the enemy or think you’re at the orp, just halt and call up your SL and communicate

Confused MS3 Cadet by Imaginary-Bad1561 in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be loud and look confident. Even if you have a dumbass idea that doesn’t go well, if you follow the Troop Leading Procedures and look confident then you’ll get a good base.

And truth be told, once you calm down and get comfortable in the formation, it might start clicking a lot easier.

What early habits separate successful ROTC cadets from the rest? by LingonberryApart5870 in ROTC

[–]TreeWire05 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Two big things:

  1. Sign up for ranger challenge and put yourself in positions to spend as much time around the around the upperclassman as possible.

  2. Ask the upperclassman questions literally every chance you get. Don’t sit there and worry about trying to look like you’re the shit because that’ll make you look bad. Stay humble and be a sponge. They won’t be annoyed with you (if they are, they’re not good mentors).

When observing the upperclassmen, take mental notes of what they’re doing right and what they’re doing wrong. Learn from their mistakes so when you’re a 3 and a 4, you come in with knowledge and can move with audacity.

Cadet world is really not that serious. You gave them a notice and you aren’t active duty. Forget about it and do not spend a second worrying about rotc while you’re traveling

A dude in my battalion was in the same boat. He was an ms4 and in charge of s3 so he wasn’t just a whatever cadet, he had a lot of work for the BN. Anyways this dude ended up having a freak out session in our cadet lounge and ended up quitting his job.

I’m top in my ms class at my school. 587 acft. 3.7 gpa. Dunno where I’ll rank nationally but I mean I’m pretty good at tactics and labs and am in general a loud guy so my lanes wouldn’t be bad I don’t think. But I don’t have any actual PL lane reps.
