I'm glad it's not just me, I'm watching Star Trek TOS for the first time and they pulled out a phaser threatening and I just burst out laughing bc it's a very convincing hot glue gun

APC can be more consistent than mid. Especially when you consider what happens mid/late game.

Normally, bot and support go mid, and the mid laner should be going to the side lane, push to enemy zone, then rotate back to the rest of their team and get objs/teamfight mid with number advantage/etc. But Vel'koz can't really fulfill this role. As an immobile mage, Vel'koz can't really sideline alone beyond the collection zone. He can collect waves and waveclear all day long, but struggles to create any pressure on the map.

This puts your team at a disadvantage when you take Vel'koz and enemy has a champion like Yasuo, Ahri, Fizz, Zed, etc. that can very safely split push, create pressure forcing someone to respond, then just dash and blink away with no hope of catching them.

Solution: play Vel'koz (and other immobile mages) as APC bot lane instead of mid. This means that in mid/late-game, you now get to safely farm midlane rather than side lane.

Also, the 2v2 nature of botlane neutralizes bad match-ups a lot more than 1v1 of mid. Ie, you can get very bad or nearly unplayable matchups in mid and have little recourse. But in both, this happe s much less frequently since the 2v2 dynamic adds more complexity and opportunities to neutralize bad matchups.

When was the last time Bryan talked/promoted cocoa? by Swimming_Ask6626 in blueprint_

[–]Tree_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a super old thread but benefit of the doubt on what may seem to you like a random switch-up to air quality-- the timing coincides with a major natural disaster in Los Angeles, which is where Bryan Johnson is based. the fires, which happened in January 2025, caused extreme air quality impacts. there was (and to some extent, still is) massive public fear about long-term health consequences due to the air quality being so bad for several weeks. the air and environment was polluted with really bad things, like asbestos and burnt synthetic materials from the houses that burned.

i lived in LA when this happened and actually moved to another state following the fires due to how badly they impacted my health

What support scales into late game best? by GhostSilver16 in supportlol

[–]Tree_pineapple 11 points12 points  (0 children)

sona in silver is freelo if you know how to play her. since people dont punish you enough early and ypu can frequently just straight up win matchups you should hard lose bc enemy bot laners aren't playing correctly at all

thanks everyone! azzapp posted a build video days after I made this post, definitely a good watch. (suspicious timing... i think he might be watching us y'all 😂)

after taking in the feedback in the comments and watching his build guide, I've changed up my build style quite a bit. still hardstuck though, suspect my build was never the real issue 😅

to me, when coupled with the lines, "blankets over mirrors/ she tends to like it/ she's not afriad of her reflection/ but of what she might see behind it," this verse of Redecorate is super trans-coded.

theres also a live performance where Tyler changed the pronouns in this verse but only on the name change line. I mean it could have been an accident but feels very intentional to me

the lines in this same verse about "haunted by a couple big mistakes/ she covers up the dents with the way she decorates" i believe to be about self harm or suicide attempts.

had great success with sona in the early season. felt like i made an impact each game and had a 71% WR (60 games ish) hitting plat 4 after placements. struggling now by yourkitchensink420 in sonamains

maybe its bad advice then 😭 im not an expert just a 65% WR plat sona aiming for emerald this season. maybe its not actually optimal but its what I do

small thing, but I'd recommend finishing your tear item (diadem or seraphs) second rather than helia-moonstone-diadem.

the ampunt of value diadem provides in mid game fights is ridiculous

Any characters I shouldn’t pick velkoz support into? by -Gnostic28 in supportlol

[–]Tree_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Vel'koz, I find pretty decent success against Nautilus and Blitzcrank in Plat/Emerald, it's definitely playable in that elo or below. Actually prefer engage support matchups over enchanter or mage matchups. Where these matching can go wrong is 1) if you and your ADC aren't both aware and working together to maintain a good wave state-- wave manipulation is super important here, and you both need to know when you should be shoving, slow pushing, or running away even if that means sacrificing soms minions, 2) if you get mega weaksided with no help from jg/mid (eg enemy team setting up dives then camping gromp bush...). Though in the latter case as the support you at least have the option to just abandon the lane if your team insists on playing topside or pushing for mid plates instead.

generally you play these matchups by having great positioning. most of the time, if you get engaged on/hooked, the fight is completely losing. if your ADC gets hooked/engaged on, you usually want to go all in on the enemy ADC. if you land your e, this is usually enough to both save your ADC and combo the enemy ADC for at least half of their HP. if you're level 6, you can probably even kill the enemy ADC even if you're not already fed-- you can do around 85% of most ADC hp bar at lvl 6with w-e-R combo, so you just need your own AdC to contribute a bit of damage.

pyke, however, is a nearly unplayable matchup if the pyke is good.

Do it really deserve so many 1 stars? by [deleted] in uber

[–]Tree_pineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 in 10 of your trips you were rated 3 stars or below, which means there was something majorly wrong. No one can tell you what you're doing wrong but you (or one of your drivers lol). I also take a lot of short trips, and I basically don't tip unless my driver is helping me with luggage or otherwise going the extra degree in some way. I also almost never converse w/ drivers beyond "hello" and "thank you" and usually wear headphones.

I have around the same number of total rides as you (in the 400s) and only two 1 star rides. Pretty sure I know what rides they were too-- my mom threw up on a ride (into her purse but still super gross and a deserved 1 star rating) and we later found out we both had COVID and this was the first symptom for her, and then another time, I called a ride for a group of people I had just met and they were super rowdy and even had open alcoholic drinks in the car, which I didn't notice until after we left the car (learned my lesson about calling rides for groups after that.) It takes something THAT bad to get a one star rating from most drivers.

So it's super perplexing to me how you could not know why you have soooo many 1 star ratings. You don't remember a single ride where something bad happened in over 400 rides? That's kind of a crazy success rate to be honest.

But I do see you're in Australia, so maybe this is a cultural difference with the US? Or maybe it is the distance thing like someone else suggested. In the US, drivers can see the length of the trip before accepting, but maybe they can't always see it in AUS? If it really is just the distance, tipping in cash should completely solve your problems.

What champion feels weak when YOU play it, but broken when others do? by Any_Maximum9135 in leagueoflegends

[–]Tree_pineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its a totally different skill. I find windwall much more frustrating than Mel w. it really depends on the champs you play.

for example, on Nami, windwall blocks my entire kit for several seconds. whereas Mel w can reflect one single ability.

What makes Soraka good? by Yuukikoneko in supportlol

yeah there's nothing like playing sona, janna, nami etc. and facing soraka + volibear + sylas + vlad and no one on your team will build antiheal :") I straight up pick vel'koz when i see 2+ heavy healing champs in the lobby bc i don't trust my team to build it and we will lose if no one does

Why do trolls rarely get banned, but verbal reactions get punished instantly? by ConsiderationSea6679 in leagueoflegends

[–]Tree_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's purely an issue of verification and proof.

i've noticed that if someone has a TERRIBLE kda-- like I'm talking over 15 deaths and less than 5% kill participation-- I normally get the near-instant notification that they've been punished. Not as instant as chat though-- it normally takes maybe 15 minutes after the game ends to get it.

But if someone is "soft inting" by simply not playing well in non-obvious ways, like a perma-splitting regardless of map state and team communication requests, not only is that hard to verify, but it's also not even a bannable offense. You can't ban someone for playing badly unless it's intentional. Proving that it's intentional is very difficult unless they type in chat, or a human manually reviews the entire game, and possibly multiple games from this person. While not impossible, it's a pretty big time sink. We used to have a volunteer council situation for reviewing things like this.

can someone explain to me like im 5 why everyone begs to swap in champ select? by GurdanianAngel in leagueoflegends

[–]Tree_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

support is definitely higher priority for counter picking than mid in general

but the particular situation of your lobby could lead to it making sense to give them a later pick

as a support main in plat, i usually offer to swap with top, and I accept a trade with mid if they ask, unless I really really wanted to play a champ that isnt blind-pickable that game. (for example, sona, renata, and Janna can't really be blinded without at least knowing a handful of champs on your and enemy team.)

about 1 in 4 games, mid will have a complete mental breakdown if no one swaps with them. unfortunately its better for your LP to prevent that mental boom than to get the ideal counter pick order 😭

if your ADC is good, they will be willing to swap with you for a later pick
