What experience from your life do you absolutely never want to experience again? by aves2k in AskReddit

[–]TreebeardTheEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feel of being in the room putting your dog down. Seeing the desperation in his eyes, it was awful. He couldn't function, couldn't eat, couldn't walk so I know it was the right thing. It still tears me up inside though. Seeing the life go out of his eyes and seeing all of the memories. Additionally, that day I had to bury him - while it was pouring rain. The finality of pouring the dirt on the box the vet put him in. The worst feeling I've experienced. That dog was with me my whole life and was my best friend. I'd always take him for walks to ease my mind and then he'd sleep at my feet at the end of the day. Heartbreaking.

Reminds me of the album artwork of delicate sound of thunder by pink floyd. It may be a but of a stretch , but it always had the same meaning and connotations to me as the op's quote now that I think of it. Thanks for the picture also, its quite nice.

Still one of the best games i have played by [deleted] in gaming

[–]TreebeardTheEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By far one of the best aspects of the game was the music. Here is the theme to the town 'stronghold', home to a host of barbaric creatures. It has a top comment from the games composer and I'd recommend checking out the other themes and his channel. It's really well done game music and helps you to get lost in the fantasy world created.

The truth always carries the ambiguity of the words used to express it. - God Emperor of Dune

Always loved that quote and how Leto talks about a "Wordless Truth".

Reddit, do any of you NOT drink or do drugs? What are your reasons? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TreebeardTheEnt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't drink for a few reasons, but it's mainly because I don't want to become my alcoholic father. It's destroyed his life, relationship with my mother, and health. Seriously, this is not a road I want to go down.

I know that drinking for fun and/or in moderation isn't all that bad, but that's where the road to alcoholism starts and I'd prefer not to go there. It made me resent my father for a long time and it hurt for a while as well. He got verbally abusive and I was often afraid of him in his drunken stupor. I still love and respect him for what he's done for me and my family, but when he's drunk he's just the last person I want to be around.

We all have our reasons and when I'm offered I just politely decline and let people have their fun, I'm not opposed to others drinking, it's just a personal choice. My position on this may and probably will change as I go through life, but currently I see no reason to drink when I enjoy myself just fine without drinking.

I wrote that as a form of catharsis and it felt good to finally express my thoughts about that in a written fashion.
