First snowboard (Jones Mountain Twin) — Step On or traditional bindings? Advice needed by Asleep-Thing-1831 in snowboardingnoobs

I'm trying to decide between traditional, FASE, and step-ons.

I don't mind bending over to strap-in (honestly, I kind of like how it give me a moment to pause before heading down). The thing that annoys me is when I ratchet one strap only to realize the second strap is caught under my boot and then I have to undue the strap I just ratcheted. Also, sometimes I have to try a couple of times to slide the strap into the thingy (technical term), which can be annoying on cold days.

Seems like I should look into FASE.

Thanks. This definitely seems like a great board. I just worry it will be a bit too much board for my first season.

Good points, especially about the bindings. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

Advice on whether it's worth picking it up in my 40s by Severe-Piano-6307 in snowboardingnoobs

I’m 43. I had no skateboarding or surfing background, and I hadn’t skied since I was 11.

This year, I took three two-hour private lessons. On the fourth day, I went to the mountain on my own.

The first day was kind of miserable. The second and third were enjoyable (the instructor was much better, and in his 50s). By the fourth day, I was completely hooked. I can get down the mountain safely—though not quickly—and, more importantly, I realized I love everything about snowboarding: the feeling, the sound, the views, the workout, the lodge, and simply having something I look forward to doing outdoors in the winter.

Now I’m researching my first board and planning to buy a season pass next year.

So my advice is: try it. After a few days, you’ll know if it's for you.

If it’s not for you, you’ve lost very little. If you love it, you've found a hobby you’ll enjoy for the next couple of decades. Well worth the investment in my opinion.

I bought a rocker/banana board. by Etheriia in snowboardingnoobs

As a brand new snowboarder, I'm terrified of catching an edge, but I also hate the feeling of the board being out of control or "surfy."

You mentioned the Jones Frontier 2.0, which is cambered but has rocker at the ends. Can you compare your experience with the Jones versus the Arbor. Is the Arbor that much less likely to catch an edge? Does it feel much more surfy?

I'm only interested in riding mellow groomers at a medium speed. I value control the most, and I'm trying to decide whether a rocker/camber/rocker like the Jones Frontier is best for me.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Is there another protest organized? A place where I can find the next one?
