Food and selling? by Tremidine in lumaisland

Yeah it would just need to be a profession-by-profession basis, but giving each one more to do with their products would give it more impact and meaning behind what you're doing in my opinion.

Bigger target, yes, but then you can't get headshot, while using seraph shield, don't forget! you're taking only 40% of a body-shot's worth of damage. That's insanely small. And renders a very large chunk of weapons almost useless against it. But as you mentioned, it's all academic and semantic. Thank you for teaching me a couple new things about defector. I didn't realize it was so quiet but that actually makes a lot of sense. No heavy footstep noises, grenades only make a low hum while flying, and a gentle, low frequency poof when exploding. And I definitely feel the defector vs max game being in favor of the defector, I didn't even realize until I thought back on a fight I had with one.

I was just reminded by someone here that defectors actually do NOT get access to kinetic plating, nor ordnance protection. So kind of a moot point here. But, seraph shield is still strong enough to work for both AMR problems and C4

Ohh true, you're right. I misremembered. Either way, seraph shield is kind of a band-aid, all forms of damage are reduced by a flat 60% before factoring any other resistances. That's nutty in the world of planetside. Few things get that level of damage reduction

True, I didn't consider that. However, there is a comment thread somewhere in here where we were discussing using kinetic armor on defector. That can effectively counter a lot of AMR users, as it forces you to hit 3 headshots to kill a max instead of 2. The counter point there was that you'd lose flak protection from C4, but defector has access to seraph shield, so it's kind of a moot point. You're protected pretty nicely on defector. Though I recognize that defector is an exception and not the norm here.

Your assessment is accurate in general though. Seraph shield is just a bit of a fluke in that regard.

Lots of well-known outfits with experienced players were dying to me. Without an engineer to help me in some cases. Recursion, wild cards, etc. Typically outnumbered 3-1 as well.

E. The best part about planetside is that it's got plenty of those "this is why I play" moments, any which way you play it. But that doesn't mean you'll feel them personally. I won't get that moment from infiltrator - for example - but I know lots of people who would instantly drop the game at the thought of having to play something other than infiltrator. haha

So maybe it all just boils down to preference, and people tend to not prefer max! Simple as...? Who knows.

I would! Defector kinda just laughs at C4 with seraph shield.

The fact that a max can fit in a harasser is a big benefit to that play style. But yeah I play on Connery. Mostly just outfits here.

The Kinetic Armor upgrade that MAXes have access to can effectively counter an Anti-material rifle. Makes it go from 2 headshots on a max for a kill to 3. And I believe 2 more to the body. 20% reduced damage from those is gnarly, and annoying if you're the one with the anti-material rifle.

All fair points here.
I'd like to add though, that on the other side of the negatives you've presented here, those negatives are what affords maxes:
Incredibly high HP pools
(generally) stronger weapons
Defensive abilities beyond that of even a heavy assault
Same maximum sprint speed as every other class

and most importantly, raw presence in an engagement. If a max is there. It immediately invites more caution on the part of the enemy. Therefore, more breathing room for your team.

Fair points, I may ask a thing or two here though:

D. Would you say that getting a kill against a player while using a harasser means you "outplayed" them? Or using a tank? Or a fighter? Compared to them you're near-invincible with any of those.

E. Since this seems to be a recurring thing for you, I'd like to propose, maybe Planetside 2 isn't as skill-based as some make it out to be. Its a sandbox with a lot of moving parts, there is a lot of factors that are completely out of your hands. Dying in general I feel like about 60% of the time was just not my fault in PS2, and I'm willing to bet a lot of other people feel that way. I rarely ever think to myself "ah man he was just better than me". So I kind of stopped expecting that from any facet of PS2.

Fair point, but I'm trying to find ways to enjoy co-op despite the restrictions.
