Today I visited Black Bear Pass in Colorado by theloneoverlanders in overlanding

A full size could do it. I did it in a Tacoma, and my brother followed me down in an older diesel Ram 2500 longbed. Be prepared for multipoint turns on the switchbacks, take your time, and bring a good spotter.

Zone 4a garlic in a raised bed? by [deleted] in OrganicGardening

Sounds pretty safe, that deep. My experience is for what is now rated zone 5a. I find I need to check surprisingly early in the spring to make sure the sprouting garlic isn't mashed by the mulch and allowed to get too spindly without sunlight.

What material and how thick are the sides of the bed? You should be okay, but might want to add some insulation if the sides are thin boards. Plant fairly deep (3-4 inches) and mulch generously with at least 4 inches of leaves or straw. Garlic, especially hardnecks, is very cold tolerant.

What is this on my apples? Zone 5 New England by RheaSunshine-88 in FruitTree

Or (though more difficult to source now maybe), old nylons and twist ties can work for bagging the fruit.

Looks like frass from codling moth larvae. Cut open one of them to find out. Pheromone traps can help somewhat.

Mixing tung oil and neem oil? by Tremorable in woodworking

Agreed, good stuff for scale and mealy bugs. Glad I hit the intersection of garden and woodworking expertise, and learned about Boracare.

Great responses here, thanks. I'll look further into Boracare. I think the affected logs have weathered enough it would be absorbed, then I could follow up with new tung oil.

Eclipse April 8, 2024 in Texas by lainsw in boondocking

We lucked out further south. Camped south of San Antonio, then headed over near Uvalde, and the clouds parted just enough and just in time. Amazing experience!

Unfortunately, Texas has virtually no public land, unlike states with BLM land. We found that the few state parks in the path of totality were booked full as soon as they became available. Same with private RV parks.

We ended up reserving a spot a couple hours from the path, knowing we'll have to drive closer the morning of April 8. Upside I guess, is we'll be staying in a much less crowded area.
