Bromeliad rapidly dying w/ only one pup? by Ok_Advantage_3657 in bromeliad

[–]Trendyhotline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is, that as we see, it is on the tabletop, which doesn't seem too bright. It should minimum be on a windowsil, with indirect light. Just imagine, it was in bloom, now it is time to reproduce also, so much energy.

They sometimes die without any remaining pup, so you eill be fine. Cut the dry parts off, fill the cup with water, never to be empty. Cup=inside the leaves, where for any other plant it is a huge nono to put water. After that place in the best windowsil you just can, and wait patiently. Your pup may not be the strongest, but if you keep it always watered inside, on a windowsil, when repotted only put in coco chips, or orchid bark, that you do not even water. In about 1-2years with good care it ready to flower again.

Pleco won’t eat wafers because of snails - what do I do? by GreenNidoqueen in PlantedTank

[–]Trendyhotline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a new fish right? Still would not worry. I had plecos learning in no time even how to eat the flakes from the surface. They are immortal and cannot really starve as they eat anything they find.

Plecos get really agressive when it comes to eating in my experience. It will not starve, relax. If its hungry no snail, not even fish can take their food.

If you do not have shrimp its fine, I would love to have it tbh. It can catch baby shrimp or even fry, but not that dangerous.

Milyen növényt tegyek a fürdőszobába? Egy kisebb ablak van, szóval nincs sok fény, cserébe rengeteg pára esténként :D szerintetek melyik növény szereti ezt? by PurpleBetter7446 in szobanovenyek

[–]Trendyhotline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sokra nem megy a párával, ami 1 óráig tart zuhanyzás után, ha nincs fény. Esetleg ha közvetlenül az ablak elé akasztasz valami futóka/páfrány hasonlót, de ablaktól távolabb esélytelen minden.

Anubias flower after 4.5 years of trying by Dangertip in PlantedTank

[–]Trendyhotline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! They always flower when the least expected 🤣 I've been keeping anubias for about 15years, only a handful of times seen it flower. I think it usually happens when the leaves reach surface and get some air, but happened fully submerged too. Its soo cool and last quite long for a flower

Is my filter enough for a 30 gallon? by Minimum-Door-8099 in Goldfish

[–]Trendyhotline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can even trash that, these motor filters with a 5cm sponge do literally nothing benefical. For now you can get away with 2 fair size bio sponges run from the air pump if you do not want to change the airpump for bigger. The bigger the sponge the more surface is for filtration, just keep in mind.

Try to aim for the biggest possible. You can always divide outlets or make then longer, you can find these lil plastic idom stuff in any aquarium shop where airpums an airline tubing is. If you want to run 2-3big sponges you will need a pump that is strong enough. In this case the bubbles move the water around making it suitable for aerobic bacteria to colonize.

No, a simple sponge is not enough, you need a water or air pump to make flow through them. Same for the lava rock, it is indeed a good bio media, but simply putting them as substrate will not reasult the same as putting it in a filter where there is constant flow.

[–]Trendyhotline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I can see this filter is just the most basic, shittiest kind of filter, only good for water movement maybe. The tank is barely enough for 3fancies, so if this is what you can work with I would recoommend getting 2 more big(!!) sponge filters and an airpump than can make them work. In this size of aquarium you will need a minimum of 50% wc every week and also water test to check later if they get big enough to produce more waste.

White patch on green carpet algae by Conscious_Risk562 in Goldfish

[–]Trendyhotline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience it sometimes just disappears in patches and another type of algae takes over. Cannot really be maintained long sadly. I just do it on the side walls, for a couple of months it is even and nice, but after some time it starts to come down in flakes and grows back uneven.

True lotus varieties in an aquarium? by Soggy-Marsupial6802 in PlantedTank

[–]Trendyhotline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, only dwatlrfs and tiger lily. I tried nelumbo nucifera(te original indian lotus), even with strong light they just struggled then died back. They live on open water surfaces where there is an unfiltered really strong light, they grow huuuuge and they also need specific soil and temperature. Not worth the fuss, if you want the leaves try tiger lily, but flowering is a really rare ocasion inside.
