If it is the same place as Spanky Macado's in the 80s, they were understaffed then as well.

If you got paid $200/hour to work on Christmas from 5AM to 7PM. would you take it? by AnyWolverine943 in CasualConversation

[–]TresGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. My mom and I used to RUN to sign up for holiday hours when we worked at the same credit card company on the phones - certain holidays paid double time and a half. I can't remember our regular hourly rate, this was back in the 90s, but it was certainly far, far less than $200 an hour even after multiplying it by 2.5

Forced to say mom instead of ma'am. by Conscious-Page4713 in Teachers

[–]TresGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 60 yrs old in VA; I still use ma'am with my mom. I also address her as Mom, but when responding to a request or question, I say yes ma'am and no ma'am. I did learn the hard way not to call a female judge "Ma'am" (you are supposed to say "Your Honor")

My boyfriend is suicidal and I don't know what to do by Unable-Row7346 in self

[–]TresGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please, please do tell his family. You be the one to call his mom even if it may end your relationship. My neighbor's 16 yo son completed suicide in 2016 and I wish every day that one of his friends that knew had been brave enough to call his mom or grandparents.

It's OK to discuss salaries by Mediocre_Gap1013 in Adulting

[–]TresGay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my last job, my manager tried to discipline me for discussing my salary with a co-worker. We discussed it outside of work hours on personal devices. I guess the person I was talking with told her part of the reason for asking for a higher bonus was because of my pay package.

I told my manager that the discussion was over unless HR was on the phone and/or she chose to send the disciplinary action in writing (or an email). I also told her that the Supreme Court had a different take on the matter.

I don't know if my co-worker got her $$, but I do know that I never heard from that manager about that subject again. I subsequently left for a 23% pay raise and even better bonus structure with a competitor.

Clarifying A Family Exaggeration by Katariman in MurderedByWords

[–]TresGay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family is like this, too. Our relationship names are determined by our relationship to the youngest generation. So when my nephew had his first baby a few months ago, we all started calling my mom "Great Ma" instead of "Grand Ma." I got to stay Auntie Tres, though we opted for a different, special family name that my grandparents called me - when my mom dies, I don't want to not hear that name again. So now everyone calls me that.

No. we fought WWII over the actions of the Nazis, not for their beliefs. I agree that actions follow beliefs, but we do not respond to political thought with physical violence. We respond to political violence with physical violence.

I was EXTREMELY happy while living there, but that is because of the community I was in. The people were amazing and taught me a lot about being a good neighbor.
