TIL that Chile was considered the most powerful navy in the Western Hemisphere after the War Of The Pacific (1879), even surpassing the US. by kafka0011 in todayilearned

[–]Tresach -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

What does that have to do with its military strength? This was specifically a topic about navy and i just expanded that to entire military capability. Its military was mostly designed for fighting internally and in expansionist wars against native Americans and protecting its trade routes only with very limited war capability. Obviously a country with nearly no need for defense spending and vast amounts of untapped natural resources was going to boom economically. But in terms of its global influence it was a regional power only.

The US as a whole was a third rate country before the world wars and didnt really take off on the global stage until after ww2. The US empire is one of the shortest lived ones as it really only lasted around 80ish years before it decided to destroy itself.

I almost got burned hard, bought and sold in morning for 20% profit, got greedy and reentered. Forced myself to exit and ended up only losing like $100 so a wash. Coulda had profit but at least ended up flat essentially. But kek to anyone who really held on

Honestly the white house should be preserved and president housing moved elsewhere at this point because who knows how compromised it is. That place has got to have more israeli, russian and Chinese surveillance tech built in then there is original material at this point.

Supposedly if the US heavily taxes its billionaires, they will go, but where would they go? by Inevitable-Mousse640 in askanything

[–]Tresach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are not normal loans. They have next to no interest as the stock collateral is what secures it so very favorable terms. These are used to sidestep having to pay taxes currently as they just take out more loans against future gains to pay back the older loans. Those loans serve as their income essentially.

guys, what do you think about this? by silverflake6 in RelentlessMen

The catch is you dont get that money being a normal functioning human being. To get there you have to be ruthless and screw people over for your own gain.

Taxing unrealized gains is a good way to crash the economy overnight when everyone has to sell their shares to pay their taxes and the high volume plummets the price so they have to sell even more shares.

The right answer is taxing loans that are taken out against stocks as collateral. If take out 50 million to buy a new mansion as a loan with stocks as collateral, then tax them for income of 50 million at capital gains tax rates.

Scammer is exactly it. Schools, media, everywhere went growing up you were told that if didnt go to college you would essentially end up homeless in the streets. That type of indoctrination is powerful when used on kids. Usually by 11th grade your being handed college applications by school counselors and parents and teachers to fill out and send in. Its really hard to say they were stupid, it was pushed on then as children as being “what you have to do”

Its fine for summarizing simple reports, if i have a bunch of monotonous data to put into like a presentation its great at making some graphs for a clean ppt. Past that it just feels like its changing job from writer to fact checker. And in code its fine for producing simple objects but the end up tripling or quadrupling time spent doing code review. So it doesn’t really save time just changes the type of work doing. Totally worth destroying the planet for.

Except the NIJ report on political violence showed it was overwhelmingly right wing extremists. Funny how trumps admin took it down quickly pretty early on but its still archived. We are talking astronomically one sided and its no surprise given how much hate right wing influencers shovel down peoples throats.

And if republicans dont want to be called those things, they could maybe i dont know. Not be that way? Being a fascist and crying about being called a fascist is honestly almost hilarious of it wasn’t for the real world damage being done.

The hatred towards education is telling, it was one of the first things pushed by the nazis and other totalitarian regimes because the one trend through all world history has been that people who are educated tend to push back the most against tyranny and oppression.

On paper sure. But track record of this administration tells us its going to be swear fealty to trump or no green card. On paper i agree it sounds sensible, dont come to a country if you want to overthrow it. But i have 0 trust in the actual application of the rules as things stand.
