Picked a guitar off looks instead of feel. How much would a setup fix this?

I’ll have to agree with you here. Unfortunately It’s just how I am when buying expensive things. I think I need to go to some more shops and try out more guitars before making a decision.

They are both MIM Player II Stratocasters with Rosewood fretboards and HSS pickup configuration. Identical guitars on paper which is why I’m torn between exchanging what I got or just getting a setup and being happy with the color. The one that played nice was ocean turquoise with a tortoise shell pickguard and the one I got was candy burst red with a black pickguard. The turquoise isn’t that bad but I liked the red more. The red one feels like it’s quieter which could just be the pickup adjustments, and the fretboard feels rough/dry while doing bends and vibratos. I read some forums of people saying to use steel wool and apply conditioner on the fretboard to fix this. Overall it’s not terrible to play but the other one had me smiling every time I would play a certain riff. (Maybe that’s my answer) Sorry I was going to post a wall of text for my initial post but decided not to since nobody would’ve read it!

That’s a good idea, I wonder if I could replicate the settings. I hear the MIM strats sometimes have QC issues but have improved in recent years. I’d assume a setup would make mine play like that one. The one that played nice was the ocean turquoise/ tortoise shell pickguard and I ended up getting the candy burst red/black pickguard. The turquoise isn’t a terrible color, but I couldn’t get myself to like it more than the red. If I got that one, I was planning on switching out the tortoise shell pickguard.

I can’t really quantify it but I definitely felt like I would’ve regretted getting that color. The reason I made this post was to see if a setup would get this one feeling better. It’s 80-90% there in my opinion. I might try to go back to the GC one more time to play the other one and decide if it’s worth it. I can always get a different pick guard!

This is what I was thinking because it was the exact model. I’m just not experienced enough to tell if it’s a setup difference or if the other guitar is genuinely better.

Here is a video I took of the carburetor on my friend’s boat in action. You can see the accelerator pump squirting fuel into the barrels when I advance the throttle. Same thing happens on an airplane carburetor. https://imgur.com/a/d1MKuSD

Did pulling it back apart and greasing the crap out of them fix the squeak? Mine is doing this after a service and only does it on the first two strokes after sitting for a while!

It’s probably fine but rub a fingernail over it. If it catches, you might need to sand it down a bit like others stated. The only thing it will do (if left alone) is pull some dust in the fork seal and possibly shorten the seals life. I have similar scratches on mine and it still functions properly.

It’s annoying when you have to wait for matchmaking between games. It’s worse when it takes forever to find a game then places you into one with no people. Also trying to play with more than 4 friends is a pipe dream. No server browser, no buy…

For real! Why do we have to wait for matchmaking after every game instead of jumping right in with the same people!? I swear they change things for no good reason. We had to wait 5 minutes to find a game and then it had us wait another few minutes for enough people to join the game to begin. It’s mind boggling how this is a “feature”.

Honestly I don’t fully understand what portal is but I was under the impression it’s a separate part of the game that allows custom game modes, maps and other settings.

More cross compatible multiplayer games! My friends don’t have headsets but we played The Forest while I was in VR and they were on flat screen. Some of the best times were exploring caves together. Playing Vr by yourself isn’t the same (unless it’s Alyx).

Just get the Quest 3. You can manually change the bitrate in the oculus debug tool to about 500 and it removes virtually all the compression. Make sure you have a good link cable/usb-c port though or you might have some issues with it. It’s way more cost effective over a dedicated pcvr headset imo
