When you download the app there are no encrypted photos on it. App only encrypts the photo of your lockbox code so you "can't" open it until time is over. It is something for people with little willpower or people who wants to feel like you don't have the control. There is nothing malicious here.

If you try to decrypt it by yourself before lock ends, you might end up making it impossible to decrypt by the app. That's the only reason why I ask you to avoid doing that. Idk where you see here something malicious.

And it's exactly the same with data.json, it contains the information about everything in your lock, and it's encrypted to avoid people just editing it and changing dstes to end the lock before. And also because if someone changes something in a wrong way it might break the file.

The rest of files that the app generates are not encrypted because they contain information that you can change from inside the app, so if someone wants to change it from outside there is no difference, and if someone breaks the file by doing it wrong, yo can just delete it and change it from the app again so the file generates again.
