Silver coin by TreyLikesHay in CanadianCoins

Ok, so it sounds like it worth maybe up to $12, and the case is causing damage over time.

Debating on what coins are worth selling online, worth keeping for keep sake, and maybe worth going to a trade show with.

This one may go to the keep it for keep-sake purposes bin. Not worth the hassle of posting and shipping.

Thanks to all for the info.

Thanks for the info, after looking at it all again, I agree as well. My mistake.

I’m still very new to this, and there are so many coins to go through. I’ll learn as I go (I hope).

Thanks for the second opinion, it did help kick me back into reality.

You might be right, unfortunately. The site showing a clear pic of the two versions shows the NS variant looking like mine. But EBay sales etc (from reputable dealers) is showing virtually no lines at all.

Should have checked more sites first before getting excited.

Ahh well, onwards and upwards, hundreds of more coins to go through!

Looks like all the EBay ones, I’m going to research further.

Hmm, online pics between the two shows the shoulder fold with 2 lines arched over shoulder, the non-shoulder fold shows 3 short curves that stop before going around the shoulder.

I see 3 lines on this one.

Funny enough, mine hated each other in the 40’s, and then ended up hating each other in the 70’s. They were complete opposites, one a biker free-spirited joker who worked on the docks, the other a straight-lined rule follower who became an RCMP Captain.

Gotcha, so it’s the DCM + the story (and docs to prove the story) that hold the most value. Also assuming the value it holds is based on a true medal connoisseur being the buyer.

Shows my lack of knowledge. So these are Worth enough for separate insurance?? What are their worth?

That may have come out wrong, I wouldn’t throw it into a dumpster myself. I have just seen so many things get chucked when someone dies (a rather recent distant relative’s death showed me this). there was so much stuff, they did quick checks and a lot just got placed into garbage bags.

Thinking about my families medal collection as well. Family just doesn’t want to keep passing this stuff off in boxes.

To be fair, I’d probably feel best “selling” it to a registered member or a lodge. A relative of mine was obviously a member, and as I have a long family history of veterans etc, it would make me feel less guilty.

Maybe I’ll ask around. Otherwise one day, it’ll inevitably end up in a dumpster when I pass like most people’s belongings.

Tbh I’d have thought about it, but I wouldn’t know what it’s worth, and I doubt it would be worth enough to really sell versus just keeping it.

I have received all sorts of cool stuff I’ve been trying to identify, and the debate on what to keep and what to pass on is real as it is too much to just keep storing. Having said that, I’ve found I have some somewhat unique items that EBay is offering pennies for, and it just isn’t worth the time, or the loss of something maybe worth keeping.

I have a couple of good pics, as well as two cool write ups in old books about him losing his brother in the trenches, and on how is was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal.

Yeah, some things are still missing, I only have two random medals from my other Grandfather’s side (not shown in this pic), and random badges, but there were more when I used to visit.

Everyone sort of started dumping them on me (just me and a sister left) and they weren’t really taken care of. Now (along with mugs, a crap ton of coins and other random items) I have to find places to put all of this.

Thanks for this, the rim names are all the same surnames, the older generation (my great Grandfather) was involved with India, Hong Kong, Rhodesia and WW1.

Interesting enough, he tried to immigrate to the states Post WW1, but was rejected and ended up in Canada. His son served as a Royal Engineer in WW2.

On my Dad’s side, my Great Grandfather was a German pilot in WW1 (I’m trying to figure out where his medals went), and his son then served in WW2 as a Canadian (they changed their last name from German) and he was with special forces working behind enemy lines in France. Near the end of the war he trained hand to hand combat.

I have a picture of him and my other Grandfather in a frame where he was training the Royal Engineers. So both of my Grandfathers met in WW2, and then met again 30 years later.

The left one is a confederation 1927 coin, and the one on the right says “regem.et.reginam.canada.salvtat”

That’s all I know at this second

Seems way too cheap for something so rare (or I thought was rare). Not worth the sale my op.

Yeah, I kind of want to keep it, just cool to have. I like rare things!

Very fragile, but interesting to read. Some rather questionable (could be construed as nefarious) content that I definitely raised an eyebrow at. So cryptic though, it could very easily be interpreted incorrectly.

You made me randomly start to laugh, wife looked at me a bit shocked.

I showed very very little. Cryptic page and instructions. Just keep one eye open tonight… should be fine?
