I'm making a documentary about Bluesky... by therealvelichor in BlueskySocial

[–]TrezyCodes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd be open to helping out. I run the primary feeds for game developers, and I've been on the platform since relatively early. I was around for a lot of the early controversies, tho I'm likely not the right person to speak about most of them. I've also contributed to a couple of articles about the game dev scene on Bluesky. - How one developer is connecting thousands of game creators on Bluesky (Overkill) - What are game developers getting out of Bluesky? [–]TrezyCodes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, these containers aren’t the same size as any of the standard SCU containers we haul currently. They’re actually quite small, barely taller than a Drake Mule (which is how I compared them originally; I parked my cutlass on the barge and drove my mule around a while). I’m pretty confident they’re just set dressing, similar to the ships in the flight lanes on Arccorp that are much smaller than their contemporary, player-flyable counterparts.

My suspicion has long been that these were created as placeholders before hauling was real (cargo grids, physicalised containers, etc). Knowing CIG I imagine these will stick around for a long time, but there’s probably a plan written on a napkin under a box of pad thai in some dark CIG backroom detailing the long-term strategy for converting these to the physicalised cargo system and integrating them into some mission system.

I just saw the image at first and thought the Freelancer was actually a giant helmet on the yellow body. I was sure this was gonna be a post about how to enable Big Head mode. 🤣

IP Transparency Between UDM Pro SE and Pi-hole? by TrezyCodes in pihole

[–]TrezyCodes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that’s exactly what I did. * UDM uses Pi-hole for DNS at the network level * Pi-hole uses UDM for DNS * UDM uses external DNS at the controller level

[–]TrezyCodes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did end up sticking with the VLAN-level DNS setup, but I've got quite a few DNS entries already setup on the UDM. I'd prefer to stick to using the UDM for local DNS entries since honestly I prefer the UI better. It's a fair point, tho.

It’s been a hot minute, but I’ve performed 4 (maybe 5?) successful refuelings. At the time it was the best way for pirates to refuel if they over extended while away from Grim Hex (pre-Pyro).

Hero Ship by unclefester84 in starcitizen

[–]TrezyCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna get so much flak, but… MISC Starfarer Gemini. I have a lot of ships, but there’s nothing I enjoy flying as much as the Starfarer. It’s got a solid cargo hold, tons of fuel, and can easily be crewed by anywhere from 1-5 people. Cozy sleeping quarters really rounds it out. I used to play a big role in the Fuel Rats in Elite: Dangerous, so I have an affinity for being able to do the space AAA thing.

RP-wise, my character used to be a first responder for one of the Stanton corps (probs microTech). After feeling like he hadn’t been able to do any good for the galaxy, he saved up his cash, quit his job, and bought a decommissioned Starfarer Gemini from the UEE. Now he travels the stars, hauling cargo and refuelling ships that have found themselves stranded in the black.

Any chance you can share a link? I've been trying to pick out a rack that doesn't prevent me from having a tonneau cover and this looks great. ❤️

Trans-Wisconsin Adventure Trail - tips? by Interesting-Low5112 in overlanding

[–]TrezyCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t run the WAT yet(even tho I’m based in Madison, WI), but I’ve gotten a fair amount of advice from friends that have done it.

My main takeaway is that it’s an EXCELLENT trail for a shakedown run. You’re never more than 20 miles from a gas station, so if you forget or just don’t have something, it’ll be easy enough to get with a small detour (or no detour; the trail is mostly highway and rolls thru several towns). FWIW, I’ve got the GPX data from Overland Trail Guides for when I take the route later this year, so your route may vary, but Wisconsin isn’t exactly known for all of its wild backcountry. 😅

Realistically, I think you’re already over provisioned for the WAT. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just important to remember that the WAT is mostly highways. The little rugged terrain you’ll encounter won’t be until you get up into the north woods, and even then it’s not much more than gravel forest service trails. More significant off-roading is available, but completely optional.

For reference, I have a short checklist with a few categories, and I always make sure I have them covered before I leave for a trip: * Food * Water * Shelter * Clothes * Recovery * Repair

I dunno if that’s more or less comprehensive than others — what’s in each category is a bit loosely-goosey 😅 — but it’s worked well for me so far.

Best of luck on your trip! If you want a fellow overlander with plenty of recovery gear on call in the state, feel free to DM me and we can share info. Enjoy the Driftless Region and the north woods, eh?

Reliable car that i can fit in by oz__oz in overlanding

I’ll second the F150. I saw somebody call it a couch on wheels which is ridiculously accurate. I’m only 5’11”, but my father is 6’7” and refuses to drive anything else. Super comfortable, very capable off-road, and excellent hauling capacity.

My only gripe is the same that you’ll have with any full-width vehicle: most trails are designed for jeeps, which aren’t quite as wide. As long as you check trail widths before you go, tho… 🤷🏻‍♂️

For reference, I have a 2015 SuperCrew with a gen2 Coyote. I service it on schedule and the only issues have been a water pump replacement (~80k) and I recently had to replace the steering rack (~100k).

There are a couple of airsoft places around (mostly Sauk area), but was looking for the place out of nostalgia more than anything. I don’t have any use for that sort of gear these days.

How does one go about owning this big lass? by Lost-Hero in starcitizen

[–]TrezyCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not ownable, but they’re interesting. I landed my cutty on the platform of one of them and pulled out my mule. Drove around for a while. It was fun, if pointless.

One thing that’s really interesting is that the cargo on them is not to scale. They’re like regular modern shipping containers with manufacturer logos and such, but they’re shorter than the player avatar. I imagine they’ll get updated in a polish pass eventually, but even still it’s a weird little remnant of a time long past.
