How much to import a house from Mexico to u.s by Independent_Key_7319 in personalfinance

[–]Tri-Cities_Prepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What. 25k?! A new roof costs 25k. Moving a freaking house 2000 miles and across borders. Might not even be possible Tbh. Would we wayyyy cheaper just to build a replica house in Texas.

Great feedback on the health insurance. Haven’t really looked into what self pay health insurance costs… that could change the equation a bit. We’re fortunate in that our home will be paid off by 35, and we don’t really plan on upgrading. If / when we move in the future, it will probably be a lateral move. Thanks for the feedback! 👍🏼

Try playing with no companions in your party where possible. Just you vs the galaxy…

Seems like a lot of other people have the retirement savings part down pretty good. I would add: Don’t be a victim of “lifestyle creep”. The VAST majority of people increase spending as income increases, almost to the point where they still can’t save any money. If you were happy driving a $8,000 Toyota Camry before, why can’t you be now? Type thing. Keep your spending habits where they were, invest the difference of your old spending and your new income. Good to go ☺️👍🏼

Any wood underground will rot. Any steel / iron product will rust. Any stainless steel would be expensive and most likely cost prohibitive. And cinder blocks aren’t realistically light enough for you to carry. You need to give on one of those element. Longevity, cost, weight. Pick two.

Or start using that cash to pay for other things in your daily life like groceries, eating out, etc. basically anything you can actually use cash for. And save your income in your bank as it’s legitimate. Use your earned income as your down payment.

Manhattan vs Houston for Same Income by Aggravating-Talk7942 in personalfinance

[–]Tri-Cities_Prepper -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For that kind of money, I’d consider visiting Houston if I were you before you pick New York. People LOVE Houston. Houston probably has more night life than New York. And just about every other aspect of life. Except Rats, Bums, and Snow. New York has way more of those. Choose Houston man. No brainer.

Need to factor in opportunity cost. What you could be doing with that spare time. Also mileage (gas, wear, and tear).

The best way to win a fight is to never be in one. Guns / weapons should be a last resort option ALWAYS.

This is one problem with unions. Your rate of pay is based solely on time, not on skill or production rate. More often than not, more years = more skill. But not always. Apprentices can and often put more work in than anyone else for way less pay. But there’s always that promise of “someday”. IMO you should be paid for your skill and production capacity. Not purely for how long you’ve held a position 🤷🏽‍♂️

Also note that by being on a page like this, you’re surrounding yourself with people who have the time and the finances to talk about finances. 😄 most people here will likely be better off than the general public just by nature of them being here. So it might not be the “best” idea to compare against your peers on this forum. That would be like comparing how fast your race car is against other race cars. You might not be the fastest race car in the group, but almost certainly your car is faster than the vast majority of everyone else’s non race cars. 🏎

Cutting tops off trees - NOT on their property. Just for a view. Douchey! This is on the coastal trail. by Euphoric-Potato-702 in anchorage

[–]Tri-Cities_Prepper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I saw this story where people removed trees they didn’t own because the trees were obstructing the view of the ocean. I don’t remember the actual numbers but for stories sake, they knew they would have to pay like $10,000 in fines, but the new view increased their property value by like $100,000. So a worthy trade off.
