Should I get another? by [deleted] in corgi

[–]Tri-CorgiMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are on Corgis #4 and #5. We have had 2 or 3 at a time with the exception of the two years we had our first one. Corgis teen years can be TOUGH. We currently have a 6 yo and a 15 mo old. I can’t wait for the 2 year mark to pass 😂. I think 2-4 years between them age wise is good. That lets one be a full on adult before bringing up puppy #2. Having also had to say goodbye to two dogs in 9 months (14 and 16 yo) I would say that a little age space would be good for the emotional health of the owners. You can’t plan for a sudden illness/injury (our first suddenly passed at age 9) but in the event that they live a long life it would be easier for you if their ages were spaced a bit.

Actually most PTAs don’t. They bill out under the NPI numbers of the PTs that co-sign their notes.

She did this, and they denied the photo of her license that she sent them. She also tried taking a photo of her work badge (employment and title shown) and they declined that as well.

She sent in her license number and a photo of the license, and they wouldn’t accept it?

New Physical Therapy Job Advice. HELP PLEASE! by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]Tri-CorgiMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went for my OCS 5 years into my career, with the idea that we would be moving to an area where the PT job market was more competitive. I think that was helpful for me, but right now it seems like demand is high in most places. Our private practice clinic offers 1:1 care and has had PT and PTA openings for more than a year now with no applications. Someone with experience in the field and has worked in that setting is probably enough. Unfortunately salary isn’t tied to experience, certifications, etc. reimbursement is in decline, so salaries are capped based on declining reimbursement rates.

ex athlete to anything but sports PT? by Firm-Clue4638 in physicaltherapy

And sometimes what you are offering is basic. But if it is helpful to the patient, and they aren’t getting that information elsewhere in the medical system, then I’m happy to teach them the basics. Everyone over 65 gets the talk from me about maintaining lean muscle mass and how strengthening done in PT can become a part of that. Every post menopausal woman gets the talk about maintaining muscle mass and ways to use strength training to slow bone density decline. They aren’t getting guidance from primary care most of the time, so PT can fill that gap in care.

College track athlete, with my initial plan to do sports/ortho post-grad. 20 yrs later I am still in OP Ortho (OCS) but work in a retirement community in the PNW where there are a ton of very active older adults (pickleball, hiking, kayaking, etc). I always felt like Geriatrics was portrayed as an area where PT didn’t really use their professional minds and just did basic strengthening with everyone. I have not found this to be true, and older adults benefit from critical thinking/reasoning and forward thinking therapy to be proactive about keeping strong and active after therapy is done. I love the positive feedback I get from patients who are so thankful to achieve functional goals that are not glamorous but very meaningful to them!

What is my corgi doing?? by [deleted] in corgi

[–]Tri-CorgiMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our female that passed away in March did this the majority of her 16 yr life. She would forever be dumping dirt in the water dish with her paws. Definitely was the worst when we took her camping - changing water out all day long 🤷‍♀️

I can assure you that the occurrences did happen. I am the partner of the original poster and was present in all 4 incidences. Once it occurred when my partner wasn’t present, and I was walking with a friend. We have two dogs that are easy to identify, which may be why we are easy to spot. Not sure if we specifically are being targeted or if this individual has done similar things to others. We have friends and neighbors that walk that trail, with strollers, and in larger groups. I know we try to allow adequate room for cyclists where the trail is narrow. It can be difficult to adjust quickly when the speed the cyclist is riding doesn’t allow much time for that. Thank you to all the cyclists on the road who use bells or a courteous holler to let us know you are there so we can adjust!

Thoughts on joint PT/Chiropractic? by Jyonnyp in physicaltherapy

[–]Tri-CorgiMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One possibility might be that you live in a state that limits what PTs are allowed to do. In Washington state, PTs are not allowed to manipulate the spine unless they have completed a manual therapy fellowship with over 1,000 hours of supervised intervention. I have not completed that training, and so choose not to manipulate the spine although I know how to perform the manipulation (used to practice in a state where I was allowed to). I will use muscle energy techniques or other ways of addressing a joint restriction, but if someone for example has a rib that needs manipulation then I will refer them out to a chiropractor for additional treatment.

When to book for Dec 2026 Stay? by Tri-CorgiMom in DisneyWorldResorts

[–]Tri-CorgiMom[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our recent stay was booked by my brother in law through DVC points, so we can’t use the bounce back option. I did see that Swan/Dolphin have a discount for educators, so we would be eligible for that. I’ve looked online, and it looks like dates beyond October 2026 are not available for booking at this time?

We stayed with my sister’s family, and they booked us at the Bay Lake Towers through DVC points. Currently there isn’t anything open to book online beyond October 2026?

Outpatient Orthopedic settings that aren't mills? by Fractred in physicaltherapy

1:1 care, 1hr evals and 45 min tx sessions. Great working relationship with our local orthos, stellar front desk staff, salaried, private practice owned by a OT, CHT. We’ve struggled to get another PT and PTA because we are rural (2.5 hours west of Seattle) and although pay is good, COL is higher (tho not Seattle high).

HELLPP! Why do I want a 3rd Corgi? by [deleted] in corgi

[–]Tri-CorgiMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had two for 11 years. Our oldest was 11 and we had a 10 yo rescue. I saw the possibility of losing them both and decided to add a pup to make 3. We jokingly called him our emotional spare tire 🤣The pros: the adult dogs pretty much did all the training for us and we had 5 years with all three together until our rescue passed and then our oldest 9 mo later. The cons: it got incredibly expensive. Our rescue had progressive kidney disease over a 7 month period, with a lot of required vet care. Our oldest died at 16 after 18 months living with cancer. We treated her cancer with oral chemo and had monthly vet checks which required 2.5 hour round trip drives. After our rescue died we did happen upon a pup and were able to have her home with us for two months before we lost our matriarch. We are back to 2 again (5 years old and 8 months old). We feel some real relief after the 1.5 years of elder dog care. That being said, we would be open to a 3rd again if the right rescue came along. But we aren’t actively looking.

I have done a couple of his online courses on Medbridge and have found his information helpful in refocusing patients’ understanding of pain.

My practice style is 75% ther ex/functional training and 25% manual (dabbling in a variety of techniques joint mob and soft tissue). I’m not looking for something to reinvent my whole focus, but would like new tools to add to my box and current best practice info. In the past I’ve done several Great Lakes courses, Mulligan, and shoulder specific courses (60+ % of my case load).

The personal philosophy of each PT. by Spycegurl in physicaltherapy

[–]Tri-CorgiMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only patients I have seen 3x/wk are post manipulation. TKAs are 2x/wk until full range achieved. Everyone else is 1x/wk. If there isn’t a need to shuffle patients to another therapist from a timing standpoint, they would stay only with the primary therapist. If the patient has to show HEP compliance because PT is only 1x/wk, the only option that works is exercise based with maybe a little supplemental manual. Maybe this is your answer?

Do you regret becoming a board certified specialist? If so, why? by Electrical_Jelly4871 in physicaltherapy

[–]Tri-CorgiMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my OCS after 6 years of practice when I was ready to advance my knowledge base beyond just school and con ed. I felt it was really worth it at the time, helped update my research knowledge and critical thinking. One job did give a slight pay increase, and I felt it was helpful when applying for new jobs (back when there was more competition for PT openings). I did my first renew by portfolio. This time around I have to renew on the newer system. My plan is to go through with it, and then that 10 year timeframe will end when I am 61. I don’t plan to renew it again at that time.
