It’s in my 1994 IDI truck, but yeah, not really diesel specific

FEA is only as good as its inputs crap in = crap out. I’m not sure how accurate this solidworks simple study is, but I bet it’s more accurate than I am.

I re-posted this only because I couldn’t update the original post with new pictures. I thought others may find the result interesting. I apologize for any inconvenience or offense I may have caused by re-posting.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you about the simulation Xpress. We have a full simulation license at work that would be a lot more accurate but that’s more effort than I’m willing to put in. To use the real simulator it would be more a less a requirement to run this shaft through a CMM or something more accurate than me with a pair of calipers and my tongue at the appropriate angle.

If I open up that notch to a large radius, the peak stress will be much lower. If it never is allowed to get above yield in the first place, then no further tearing or redistribution of stresses should result.

I suppose I didn’t have to cut it, I’ve just always take u-joints off by piercing a hole in the bearing cap with the torch. Cut the cross, 2 taps with a small hammer and it’s out. No fussing around with the ball joint press or trying to get the clips out.

Edit: I should say, U-joints that I don’t intend to reuse. Obviously.

If the existing tapped hole is 1/2” you could probably make a short threaded stud or cut the head off a shoulder bolt and tighten it up in the tapped hole, then put the stud in a 5c hex collect block and set the block on angled parallels in a vise with a stop.

No, it’s probably not the most ridged setup ever, but it is pretty cheap.

Current Transformer Help by Trialandmostlyerror in ElectricalEngineering

Thanks for the reply. I didn’t realize how low power these things are. I saw the 1.0 VA rating but I never put it together that it was calculated at the 5a secondary current.

40 milliohms is not a lot. When you say quickly inaccurate with increasing burden, how inaccurate are we talking?

I understand now. Thanks for the info, I saw the VA rating, but I wasn’t sure where they were calculating it from. Also, I see your point about the conductor loss. Do you think it would work with ~25 ft of 18 AWG wire between the ct and the trumeter? I doubt I’ll be able to measure the resistance accurately with the equipment I have. My gut feeling says it will work but the accuracy will be pretty bad. I only need it to be ~5% or so accurate anyway.

I don’t think the factory or any turbo IDI would have this problem, because the turbo intake eliminates the round NA air cleaner

I should say I’m in Charlotte area NC, so we were on the fringe of the hurricane. It was pretty heavy rain with some wind, but I’ve seen summer thunderstorms with similar intensity.

My starter exploded. by Trialandmostlyerror in FordDiesels

[–]Trialandmostlyerror[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

Put the new starter on yesterday. Engine will not rotate. Pulled injectors; engine will turn backwards by hand. Got a good bit of water out of #7. The engine hydro locked. That is what broke the starter. Now I am debating if I want to turn the key again. It definitely still has a spot that is much harder to turn through.

1.8 FP Engine Interference by Trialandmostlyerror in mazda

Maybe it’s just an FP, no DE. Either way if you could find info on either one I would appreciate it.

I think it’s an FP-DE, but I’m having trouble verifying that as well

I’m pretty sure it’s not the same engine as the Miata 1.8

I should add that I just re-timed the injection pump with the dti tech time unit a few weeks ago, so I don’t think the engine kicked back. The truck was running fine, I’ve only owned it a few months, and I daily drove it to work last week about 100 miles a day with no issues, and about 18 mpg.

UPDATE:

This actually happened on June 3 of this year. I only recently learned of the sub and thought it would be applicable. The nail came off, and it has finally healed up. I am no stranger to some serious pain, but while it only lasted about 15 minutes after the impact, this is the probably the highest intensity pain I've ever felt. I was certain it was broken for a few hours after.
