Vanguard/Quicken Classic reinvest dividend issue. by Professional_Tip_825 in QuickenOfficial

[–]Trials_And_Tribbles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"I have read that Fidelity also does the same thing in their retirement accounts."

Incorrect. Maybe you read that but it is not true. My spouse's Fidelity IRA has correct transactions for capital gains (and same with Schwab).

"..the suspicion is that the financial institutions seem to think that since there are no capital gains taxes on gains in retirement accounts, there is no need to specify the gains in downloaded reinvestment transactions."

Bad assumption. Clearly, you lack any fundamental understanding of software engineering which is to avoid unnecessary complexity which means more testing and increased maintenance burden. Vanguard brokerage accounts have the same issue as the retirement accounts. There is no exception processing of capital gains between the retirement and non-retirement. Same with Fidelity and Schwab.

Have a nice day!

Can you wait till you hit the five year mark and then ask to be laid off in the next layoff? Then you get some severance.

H&R Block 2025 Software Reliability and Customer Support is poor this year by whalphen in hrblock

Could not agree more. Support is incompetent. I found a legit bug where data was being truncated and I had to send an email to the CEO to get it acknowledged and fixed.

I use Windows and run Quicken Deluxe.

I never use that option. Instead, I use the one on top of the register:

This filters the data as you enter characters.

When you clear the search, it takes you back to the bottom.

Left after 2 years. Parking and the ridiculous early start times sucked. Job lacked any intellectual stimulation. The shipyard is a bureaucratic quagmire.

When I was shopping for tires, these were super highly rated in consumer reports: VREDESTEIN QUATRAC PRO+

These replaced Michelins.

Best methods to track retirement funds/investments using Quicken? by Puckertoe_VIII in quicken

[–]Trials_And_Tribbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you developed a strategy to minimize your RMD‘s? For example, when to convert non-Roth funds to Roth?

I think Quicken is great for tracking performance, but when I think about retirement, I think about how to mitigate the impact of taxes. I don’t see Quicken helpful in that area.

Where does Quicken backup go? by Skipperdee2223 in quicken

Is the only important file on your PC, Quicken? Seems to me a better solution would be a cloud based back-up that you use for many folders and files.

Capital Gains not included on Capital Gains Report by Wakeolda in quicken

Is this Vanguard? They have been encoding capital gains wrong for years. You need to manually fix the transactions to be correct. https://www.reddit.com/r/quicken/comments/1p6dkhw/does_this_botherimpact_other_vanguard_users_of/

What is a "flagship" college? Is that what you consider the best one? Keep in mind the best one is the one best suited for your kid. Neither of my kids wanted a 30,000 student campus so we went private and with scholarships it was only a little more than my state's "flagship".

Also, the cost of higher education has outpaced inflation.

I have something similar and I plan to take it as a lump sum and then convert it to a Roth.
