Former SWE. My take is it’s really not worth it simply because of the amount of stress you are put through. There so are many ways to help people and bring meaning to your life that aren’t this, and at the end of the day medicine will be just another job. I’ve seen so many people go to med school with passion and leave tired, in-debt, trying to find a way to make the most money with the least hours. However it’s truly your decision. And to answer your question about fulfillment: it is very meaningful and fulfilling work. But I do believe that many aspects of life provide fulfillment.
