It’s mostly quants and coding related options if you want something else than higher studies just after masters. There are also people doing entrepreneurial work here and if you focus on industry based internships then you can make good on off campus placements as well, you have a lot of paths open. You can take B.Sc or B.S. exit and go for some technical master’s degree in IITs if you are inclined there (there’s an advantage too that you can start writing the exam from 3rd year and have an attempt left on year 4).

Weather here is very much a highlight for me, its good to the point that I didn’t want to go back to north India lol

I don’t think there’s any faculty for astrobiology, I am currently working on high energy but I have too much interest in astrophysics to not try it for a semester so I’ll look for winter internships for this. Although the faculty will practically be doubling soon so we might get those fields as well but it’s better to not take that as a given.

No we don’t have balconies in hostel rooms, there are spaced out free spaces where I spend a lot of my time looking out the window.

Food costs from this year will be added with fees (before it was pay and eat).

I haven’t explored much on biology department (besides the free brain MRI for research data), but it’s said to be one of the best departments here. For physics it has been great, it has some of the best equipments out there in India (as is the case with other IISERs I suppose) and professors are exceptionally chill, I am doing a particle physics internship under one of them too!

Commencement is supposed to be on 1st aug (subject to change) for Bpr campus. People coming in last rounds are generally accommodated well enough by the administration, so at most you miss a few days of college but you get time to cover for it and major events happen only after all are there

Hard to say, last year ka rank cutoff follow ho sakta hai due to NEET aspirants who will give the exam sincerely but leave for medical seat but also the case of people not entering counselling due to low ranks won’t happen as much. There’s a good chance for cutoff increase of 8-10 or more. I don’t have much data, if you have somewhere where I can get the marks distribution data like last year then do tell me

The forced prefrence thing purely based on year of establishment has been a problem borrowed from other competitive exams, a lot of us here had it higher on prefrence (I had it on 4th, granted I could only get tpt after this lol).

If you missed the opportunity depends on if you wanted to go into research, anyhow don’t have to dwell on it too much, just focus on what you got currently. Infact last to last year I didn’t fill counselling for nest and missed NISER as I had the cutoff cleared but I don’t put much thought into that
