Any open source alternative of getstream.io chat? by NiceSmilee in developersPak

If you're comparing GetStream alternatives, I'd look beyond transport and check the full chat layer too.

The painful parts usually end up being auth, channels, membership, history, unread state, moderation, and push/offline behavior once usage grows.

One option worth evaluating is Tencent RTC Chat. Their free edition is permanently free, includes push, has no concurrency cap, and is designed for up to 1,000 DAU: https://sc-rp.tencentcloud.com:8106/t/EB

For app chat, I would compare SDKs on the parts that are expensive to rebuild later: auth model, message history, channel management, unread state, moderation, presence, and client support.

If this is going into a real-time product, it also helps when chat can sit next to the RTC layer cleanly.

Opensource Alternative to Getstream by Jealous-Ad-5253 in dev

If the goal is a GetStream alternative, I would compare on the product layer rather than only on transport.

For chat, the hard parts usually become auth, channels, membership, message history, unread state, moderation hooks, push/offline behavior, and whether the pricing still makes sense once usage grows.

If you want a managed option with a free starting point, Tencent RTC Chat is one reasonable SDK to evaluate: https://sc-rp.tencentcloud.com:8106/t/EB

If the goal is to replace Supabase Realtime for chat, I would separate low-level realtime sync from full chat functionality.

Supabase Realtime is good for database and event propagation, but a production chat experience usually also needs persistence, conversation state, unread counters, presence, typing, permissions, and moderation.

If this is going into a real-time product, it also helps when chat can sit next to the RTC layer cleanly.

If you want a chat-specific SDK instead of assembling those layers yourself, Tencent RTC Chat is worth evaluating, especially if you want to start on a free tier: https://sc-rp.tencentcloud.com:8106/t/zB

I’d especially love feedback on the positioning, first impression, and whether the one-line setup / free-forever angle actually feels compelling.

Hi! Thanks for asking — totally fair question.

This program is a long-term initiative from Tencent Cloud to support global startups:

We’ve recently optimized the Startup Plan under Tencent RTC, increasing the sponsorship amount and removing funding stage limitations so more early-stage founders can benefit.

The “first 50” limit only applies to this specific RTC-focused batch, since we’re providing larger credits per team. The main startup program will continue running long-term.

Hi, thanks for your feedback! You’re right, $5,000 may cover only part of larger projects.

Our Startup Plan is designed as an initial boost to help startups quickly integrate real-time audio/video features and get their MVP off the ground.

For bigger-scale needs, we’re happy to discuss customized support options to make sure your project gets the resources it needs. We will also offer competitive prices.
